Firstly this is a pub we have visited for many years, family meals, mum has always loved the room upstairs for any occasion and we have always loved it. It was my local for a few years and myself and my partner frequented three or four times a week when walking our dogs. Tonight we visited again paid £50 deposit for the room and pre ordered our food. We took a cake in before my mum arrived to be brought out after our meal. We all had starters mains and drinks. Myself and my daughter has hunters chicken, the chicken was extremely dry my daughter ate most but not all of it smothered in an extra pot of bbq sauce and unfortunately I could not eat mine, both were dry but I didn’t want to cover mine in more sauce. We weren’t meal checked u til we were nearly all finished at which point I said I was sorry but I couldn’t eat mine as it was too dry and my daughters was the same but managed most of hers with the extra sauce. Another guy came up and said the chef said that there couldn’t be a problem because one of the meals had been eaten and offered me a drink to compensate which I politely refused as I was driving. When the bill came there were two hunters chicken on the bill, again I said I’m sorry I couldn’t eat Mine and I wasn’t prepared To pay for it. The waiter/manager whoever he was literally argued with me about my food and said it was staying on the bill. The way he dealt with it was appalling raising his voice and insisting I should pay. The outcome was I offered my details (which I left ) and said if they wanted to deal with this another way then they could happily contact me. This unfortunately has left a very sour taste, made my mums birthday not a great time and quite frankly don’t feel like we want to return or recommend. To make things worse the cake we bought as a surprise and made an effort to get it there before my mum was announced in the room by the waiter when collecting the plates “do you want the cake now” out loud!! Seriously 🤦🏻♀️ What a night a memorable birthday for all the wrong reasons Previously loved...
Read moreThere are North Korean prison camps that are more welcoming and accommodating than the team here. The worst part is that I'm only exaggerating a very small amount.
We arrived to a basically empty garden, and were aggressively told that we may not be able to sit together because the pub was still complying with the rule of six (totally fine, absolutely no problem with this in principle). We were then told that "on this occasion we can turn a blind eye" ... surely if you have a policy just stick to it rather than passive aggressively telling us off and making everyone feel awkward???
We ordered food and drinks and the food took ages to arrive, again, not so much a problem on this front but more so that there was not one apology for the delay or explanation offered as to why our order took so long or why there were several items missing. When we flagged to the waitress that some items hadn't arrived, instead of offering an explanation and apologising, she approached our table and told us "I didn't hear that bit of the order, you're gonna have to pay for those items though yeah?". A really weird approach if you ask me.
I want to be clear that the issue was not the food taking ages, or the rule of six being (somewhat) imposed, it was the total disgusting attitude of the staff. It is worth noting that no other customers were seemingly being treated like this, except our party which was predominantly people of Colour. Make of that what you will.
Undoubtedly I will receive an aggressive response denying all of this, which is to be expected given the other responses to negative reviews. I think my best piece of advice here is that if you are not a white local punter, save your money and go elsewhere.
Perhaps a short course on customer service, hospitality, and racism would be useful for the team at The...
Read moreWe didn't want to believe it when our friends had told us The Greyhound at Hawkesbury had gone downhill so made a special point of stopping off to check for ourselves. Things Didn't get off to a good start when our mooring spot just down from the pub was littered with rubbish .Upon going to the pub , we struggled to get through the door by the car park with our dog as their was a group of about 10 rowdy men and immediately noticed the smell of weed. Things didn't improve as we found a seat near the toilets which also stank and sorry to say were very dirty . We were about to leave but managed to get another table and ordered some food, fish and chips and lasagne , which was ok but not as nice as we've had before here , The pub had no welxoming atmosphere and bordered on an intimidating environment due to the bad language and boisterous behaviour we saw at the table by the door.. I had a Guinness and the head on it was about 4 times the size it should of been but the barman didn't even seem to notice as he was too busy messing around with another staff member who was behind the window serving hatch by the bar . This used to be one of the best pubs on the cut and we've had some fabulous visits here but it sadly has gone the way of many other fine watering holes of late and that is...
