This was one of a few times I had been in with my friend and had lunch each time. during the week they have a varied lunchtime special menu alongside their main menu. Food was good, reasonable priced and the staff at those times friendly and helpful. Sadly I have to amend this, as my friend went in on a Monday recently- it is bingo at lunchtime and for 'anyone' that wants to play. It tends to be pensioners that only attend on the Monday this and most choose the 2 course lunch and tend to take home their pud or starter. Bearing in mind the bingo is open to anyone and there is no restrictions to whether you have to purchase the 2 course meal or not as they have their main menu on offer also. Or that you have to buy a drink or have a glass of tap water (which the majority of pensioners had tap water). Previously we have been actively encouraged to play and my friend has been in before and played. However for whatever reason the manager who was doing the bingo thought it was funny to humiliate my friend by slating them for only having a bowl of chips and a pint - which I might add cost over £7 plus the £5 for the bingo. All the pensioners turned to look at my friend - how uncomfortable do you think they were made to feel? Firstly there is nowhere that states you have to have the 2 course, secondly you've made assumptions that people can only eat off that menu and thirdly assuming that £12 + is not a lot of money for us that are on a tight budget. Spending £12+ is a treat and we look forward to going out on these rare occasions. Unfortunately my friend cannot tolerate certain foods and can have flare ups- and this 'hidden disability' is not very nice at times to live with. Therefore who is to judge or put restrictions on what people can eat, drink or spend? I would also like to add that the pensioners are all allowed to drink tap water for free and my friend was slated for buying a pint!! To further add more distress my friend was told towards the end of the bingo that they needed to move as a table of 14 where coming and they needed the table. They moved to another table and after they'd got settled was then told that table was needed. By then my friend was totally embarrassed and distressed to the way they had been treated. Wouldn't go near that place again absolutely disgusted and upset...
Read moreWe chose this pub for a late lunch / early dinner on Bank Holiday Monday based on the good reviews, but I really cannot see how it has become so highly rated.
When we arrived we were seated after a little delay, but that was fine. I went up to order drinks, and was told the barrell needed to be checked for the 2 diet cokes, and they said they would bring the drinks over when ready. However it was very hot today & after 10 minutes of waiting, still no sign of our drinks so we went up to order food. I was not told at that time that there was a delay in food coming out. I then had to ask again at the bar for the drinks I had paid for, before finally receiving them.
We were with my toddler, which can be tough enough when he's hungry and hot but what I didn't know is we'd be waiting 45 minutes for our food to come out. As I said, no one told us of the delay, it was only when I asked when it would arrive after about 40 minutes that I was told there was a wait for food.
When it came it was nice food, but we were so fed up with waiting by this point that it was really overshadowed.
We then ordered desserts, after I asked how long the wait would be on that and was told it wouldn't be long at all. We sat at our table, surrounded by our plates and cutlery that had not been cleared away for another good 20 minutes before our ice cream arrived, at which point the table had to be cleared to make room for the dessert.
The staff were lovely, but I will definitely not be going back again and I would not recommend this...
Read moreThe waitresses here were giving mean girl vibes today. Particularly the one with brown hair. Served us the wrong size carvery tickets and then stared at us when we were getting our carvery and changed our order size. After we’d eaten, it took her 20 minutes to collect our plates, when she collected them she didn’t ask us if we wanted any more drinks or dessert she just walked off. We were then sat waiting for another 40 minutes while the waitresses went to other tables asking how their food was and taking drink and dessert orders and we were ignored. The waitress who’d served us initially was even stood having a full blown chat with one of the tables while were waiting. The table next to us had their dinner after us but were eating their desserts before we were even asked if we wanted anything else - we were NEVER asked and in the end I had to actually call over to the waitress for the bill. When she gave it us she told us to pay at the bar. When we got to the bar I asked if usually people are provided with card machines at their table and was told yes. Whilst we were at the bar the waitresses were stood together in a group staring at me as I told the manager what had happened - you didn’t intimidate me girls sorry. We left without ordering dessert and will...
