This review is based on the bottomless brunch. The experience was disappointing despite the friendly staff. We had informed them that some guests were running late for my dad's birthday brunch and requested to start when everyone arrived, but they insisted we stick to the original schedule, they had let us know our brunch was booked for 13:00 so it had started at one, at which point we had to order our first order as we were already into our brunch time. While the Prosecco was enjoyable, some cocktails seemed diluted, and the Cobra beer was flat, almost tasting like it had been watered down. When my brother and sister-in-law finally arrived, we were told we had to place our last drink order 15 minutes prior, leaving him with just one beer for £35. The food portions were also underwhelming for the price; my sister-in-law received a tiny battered fish and a single small samosa for her order. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this brunch and have no plans to return, although I appreciate the staff's kindness in celebrating my dad's birthday with an extra cocktail and a special candle for his cake.
The final bill amounted to over Ā£180, which seems excessive considering my sister-in-law consumed only two mocktailsāhaving to ask for a second due to the brunch being declared overāand my brother had just one beer and they would not allow him another, but offered a mocktail. This pricing appears to be significantly inflated. In conclusion, either the portion sizes should be increased, or the prices should be reduced, and the establishment should adopt a more accommodating approach similar to other...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdate: read below for my original review. As a reasonable person I always give restaurants second chances. My first review was 3 stars. I've reduced it to 1 star (there is no no stars option!) after last nights take out experience.
I foolishly bit the bullet, and despite this being by far the most expensive Indian take out in Crawley, thought I might try it again because I like their Sag Alloo and a previous red curry main dish. This time I ordered a King Prawn starter for £8.25. I was horrified to see only two miserable prawns in the container. See picture attached. £4.12 per prawn? Taste? Average. I've sent them a email asking them how they can justify this absolute rip off!
Now I call myself a lamb madras "user". I love madras and eat it once a week throughout the world. (I travel a lot - including India and Pakistan). The lamb madras from this restaurant is up there as the most sourest/bitterest madras Ive ever had. I could t finish it. Curry spices and flavours are supposed to titalate all your senses - this dish almost made me gag. Good meat total destroyed by overuse and overcooking of the spices!
I had a delivery. Really Excellent Mutton Red Curry, garlic bread and Sag alloo. King prawn Madras was like 6 scrawny shrimps in spicey hot water. Crispy prawn starter was very skimpy and totally overpriced. Keema nam had far too little meat. Overall too expensive and not good value for money but the superb Red mutton curry and sag alloo might warrant a return. Delivery guys need to learn to read...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's been many years since I've visited Zari and the food was every bit was every bit as beautiful and tasty as I remembered! It's a real treat to hear the staff speak so proudly of their food and so they should! It was excellent! Tender meat, flavourful sauce and friendly, genuine service!
I'm a bit of an amateur bir (British Indian restaurant) cook - and the manager, staff and I had a great chat about cooking which was excellent! I even got invited to visit the kitchen at some point! Which I'll gladly accept one day!
The spice level on some of the dishes was a touch higher than expected - particularly in the tikka masala - which my partner and I was not expecting. Usually, when you get a chicken tikka masala from an Indian restaurant, it's sweet, creamy and filled with the taste of coconut and almond. Not this one! It was delicious - but not what we were expecting. Unfortunately, it doesn't indicate anywhere on the menu that this dish is their own unique take on the British Indian restaurant classic - much spicier too. Perhaps a small amendment to the menu to make people aware of this might be an idea? My partner is not great at handling spice and unfortunately wasn't able to enjoy the dish fully because of this. The dish was delicious but not what was expected - the only slight negative from an otherwise fantastic...
