A really disappointing visit today. We holiday in Derbyshire most years and have often eaten here and enjoyed it. We were here last in November 2023 and were served by a delightful engaging woman. Today was very different. I waited at the counter behind an elderly couple who were trying to order lunch. There was very little available and the woman serving was curt and unhelpful. The couple eventually decided on sausage roll and a couple of drinks and went to sit down. I was next. There was someone else behind me. The server made no eye contact with me. She didn’t acknowledge my presence at all. She then set about making drinks for the couple. She then took those over and returned to get a sausage roll to warm. Still no eye contact or acknowledgment of me waiting there for some time. A simple ‘sorry to keep you waiting I’ll be with you in a moment’ would have done. Off she went with the sausage roll to the kitchen. She then returned from the kitchen with a tray of cups and saucers and proceeded to put them away. Still nothing said to me. She then collected dirty crockery from a nearby table and took that in to the kitchen. Still no eye contact with me or acknowledgment that I was there waiting. At this point I decided I couldn’t stand her rudeness any longer and left to spend my money elsewhere where I was made to feel welcome. We won’t be back. We went to Chatsworth and had a lovely lunch there in the...
Read moreSuch a shame have visited this cafe so many times and always been made to feel welcome. Visited this morning and it was like a different place. I’m wondering if it’s changed owners. Not very busy on a Monday morning, stood and waited close to 10 minutes to order a drink. The lady serving didn’t acknowledge anybody was waiting just carried on doing what she was doing. I was just about to leave when the lady looked up to take my order but wasn’t particularly friendly it felt like a bit of an inconvenience that I was ordering a coffee and paying for it. Shame the coffee was great but I won’t be rushing back. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my review. This was not misinformation but an honest review of my experience in your cafe today. At our last visit the service was poor and we were given the wrong drinks after a long wait. The drinks were eventually very reluctantly exchanged. However we still returned as previous visits had always been good. I have been here many times before and unfortunately today the experience was not good. Please remember that when you are claiming that customers are dissing your business. it is customers like me that spend their hard earn money that keep you...
Read moreI don't like to do downbeat reviews but this one needs comment. It's a pleasant venue, cleanish in a Prime location but the fare was overpriced for what it was, Americano £3:20: soup and roll £6:90 ish (tomato and basil) and the ciabatta sandwich, which one of us had was over £8, Just a ciabatta, no salad or other side, pleasant to eat but really not good value. The vegan roll option was advertised but not available: Tuna mayo ciabatta and baked potatoes advertised but no tuna mayo available. After discovery, 2 of these items remained on the chalk board, pa. Eventually we settled on something but tea, coffee, ciabatta, vegan sausage roll (which was nice tbf) came to £18. The councils both Peaks and Chesterfield love their pay car parks £1:70 and hour, £2:70, 2 hours, along with the cafe stop this is not recommended as a stop but that's our experience. We had a holiday in Baswell some years ago and this wasn't a great reminder, you feel farmed rather than customers and that's not fair to say...
