I don't tend to leave reviews, but felt I have to having just dined out here. As soon as we walked through the door the service was nothing short of perfect. We didn't book (strongly advise you do so to avoid disapointment), and dropped in with the hope of getting table. We were lucky, and asked where we preferred to sit, choosing the table closest to the fire. Before we had sat down or even had to ask, there was a fresh jug of water ready for us.
The restuarant has a lovely welcoming atmosphere, and the fireplace certainly helps on cold nights like these! As soon as we sat down, we knew we had chosen the right restaurant.
We had three courses and the food was absolutely incredible (highly highly recommend the garlic mushroom starter). Having been to Italy and Sardinia on numerous occasions, I can't stress how amazing and authentic this food is. My wife went as far to say it was the best meal she'd ever had, and I'd be hard pressed to disagree with her. Truly spectacular.
In tow was our daughter, aged four. The team could not have been more attentive to her. A really welcoming atmosphere with freshly made authentic Italian food and the best (and very well priced) bottle of Merlot I've ever had. Will be returning here as much as we possibly can. A true gem in Wirksworth, with a lot more going for it than other 'Italian' restaurants in...
Read moreI took my friend here before heading to the cinema. The setting is quite nice. The smoke alarm kept going off due to smoke from the kitchen area. We both had the ribeye steak from the specials which was served with a Dolcelatte sauce. You only had one choice of side, either salad, potatoes or veg. We both had potatoes but we also wanted salad which was extra! The meal was basic and served without the sauce. Literally served a small steak on a plate with nothing else! The potatoes were a tiny portion served separately. When I asked where the sauce was I was told they didn’t know we wanted sauce with it!! (It’s part of the menu). After waiting for the sauce it was watery. We had pudding as we were still hungry. Really basic dessert. Bill of £95. Wouldn’t go again and ladies next to us said they wouldn’t be back either....

It was difficult to find a parking place in this busy little town, even on a cold weekday in December.
Only a couple of guys and me in the place. An air of sadness hung around the room. I could tell that business was bad from the look on the faces of the staff, and because the manager told me "business is bad."
My starter was nondescript, I can't remember what I had. The ragu with penne was OK but no better than my own.
The house wine should have stayed at home.
On the way back, I passed a French restaurant that was buzzing. A la recherche du...
