I visited Tideswell Lounge while out on a bike ride in the Peak District yesterday (02.08.2024). A lovely small village Bistro type place with a warm atmosphere inside and an excellent shaded seating area outside. Or if you're not fussy and want to take in the vibes of the village like me you can just sit on the wall. The selection of meals available was spot on. Personally I was in dire need of a piece of cake. I chose the Coffee & Walnut, it was delicious. The place is pristine, quirky but trendy and modern set in an exceptionally beautiful old stone built town. The staff were very friendly, chatty and helpful. It's a family owned business with all hands on board. I was lucky enough to meet and talk to Andy the owner and his son. This wasn't a planned visit I was looking for somewhere to top up my water bottles and have a minute. I'm very glad I found the lounge. I can highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. Especially cyclists for their coffee and cake top up! There's plenty of room outside to keep an eye on your pride and joy. 5 stars from me and I will definitely be...
Read moreI wasn't sure what time it was when I arrived at Nelly's. The young lady told me to find a table. I decided on Nelly's breakfast and an Americano. I was unsure if the waitress would come to take an order or if I had to go to the till. After five minutes having seen others go to the till I did the same and took my place behind a couple. I was told 'sorry we just stopped doing breakfasts'. I ordered my coffee and told the young lady I would go back to the table, look at the menu again and choose something else. I got back to table opposite the clock. It was 11:31. I noticed from the menu that breakfasts finished at 11:30! So i had arrived at around 11:20 and I had been in the queue before 11:30. The waitress then brought my coffee, I asked her if she really was saying I couldn't have the breakfast for the sake of just one minute. She replied that breakfasts had indeed finished. I decided that there was nothing else I wanted from the menu. So for the sake of one minute Nelly's didn't get my £7.90. The coffee was...
Read moreThe independent cafés seem mostly to offer the best service and this was no exception. The staff are friendly and free of drawings upon their person. The coffee was very good and the establishment has a air of calm about it, which could cause you to easily outstay your welcome. The decor made it feel very English with the attention to detail in its furnishings and decoration extremely pleasing. There were a number of pretentious customers, who I gathered to be locals and their conversation made me chuckle because they all seem to consider themselves experts. The village is totally free of yellow lines and parking didn't seem to be a problem, I assume that the lack of warden patrols is all down to it being inhabited by the idle rich. Nevertheless there is some interesting architecture here. Unfortunately High Nellie's Cafe has now closed down like so many other businesses that are closing every single day. It reminds me of what Thatcher did to my country, Yorkshire in...
