I just don’t get the good reviews! I’ve tried many times over the last couple of years to find something good to say about Bayleaf’s food…. No matter what I try from here, it just doesn’t live up to my expectations! I don’t expect much tbh… just flavoursome, quality food with the right amount of spice suited to the dish. Last night I had a Fish Karai as a takeaway and have to say, without a doubt .. it’s the worst takeaway curry I’ve had. It was a lack lustre, tasteless gravy with the minimum amount of fish…. 5 small pieces, bulked out with huge chunks of partially cooked onions! No chick peas, no peppers, no corriander or any other ingredient. In fact it was so lack lustre the whole lot went straight into the bin! Out of convenience we have ordered limited takeaways from here since it was taken over … but convenience cannot take precedent of quality and flavour…. We visited as a group of 16, the food was tasty and the team catered to individual requests for different spice levels and ingredients without any issues. We had starters and main courses plus various rice and breads, no one had anything negative to say and my meal was spicy enough and had plenty of flavour. I tried the meat puri starter and chicken tikka nawabi for a main and they were both nicely spiced , about Madras hot or so. The last few times we’ve ordered from Bayleaf & beyond in Armthorpe have been poor tbh. It is so inconsistent. 😩😡

I order king prawn jalfrezi and the sauces are always different! This week it was a thick gloopy red with not much flavour, like something out of a jar. In August I had 8 king prawns in a curry, this time I had 3 and a half and the rest was packed with veg. For £34 for two people, they’re having a laugh! 😱
