Came here a few weeks ago and was lucky enough to catch a bit of sun so we sat out the front then around 20 minutes later someone finally came to take our drinks order. A bottle of rose and some iced water. The wine was nice. Some of the starters seemed way overpriced when the chicken liver parfait at £14 didn't exactly sound special just the standard stuff with toasted brioche and a chutney and let's face it. Parfait is still very cheap to produce so there's seriously no need ( I'm all for making money on food but that must be a 99% gp which is a bit much these days. Also mussels haven't really gone up in price over the years so at £18 for 9 mussels a few fries and 1 bit of toast we also found that a bit pricey. Again they was nothing special just a standard white wine and cream sauce. The sea bass which honestly no exaggeration came with a half fillet of sea bass which weighed around 70-85 grams served with an OK tasting sauce, some tasteless potatoes , 4 mussels and caviar which I had to request to be put on as they forgot it or did they just choose to try make even more profit and not serve it in hope I wouldn't notice ? Who knows but this was a £29 dish. As mentioned the food tasted OK but was still just standard stuff of which I expected better. Shame really as I've really enjoyed the visit to the other places they have so I'll stick to visiting them and not return to this 1. Honestly wanted to love it but was really...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTo be honest, the Pantry wasn't our first choice restaurant. It was chosen by friends after failing to secure a reservation at any Indian restaurant. On looking at the online sample menu for the Pantry, my first thoughts were meh! One because I thought it so far in comparison to an Indian and secondly, it seemed to be just pub grub! How wrong i was to be proven. Whilst over the time of our stay, the restaurant slowly and quietly filled up, it went unnoticed. This created a nice relaxing atmosphere as it was just a murmuring of conversation. The tables were well spaced out, and the room reminded me of an old days school classroom. It was well lit spacious and airy. The menu selection was simple and not overwhelming. Our drinks and food orders were taken promptly, and the waiter was very friendly, chatty and informative about the menu and suggetions whilst not being overwhelming or intrusive. Everyone's dishes arrived at the same time. Portion sizes were good and well presented. Everything served to us was very flavoursome. The chips (yes, the chips) were outstanding. Not to deflect away from the quality of everything else. Price wise? It's difficult to quantify price to quality these days as everything is so expensive. Taking the dining experience as a whole, I'd say the cost was reasonable. Three courses, a bottle of wine, a glass of wine, and a non alcoholic beer was in the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent for late lunch on a Tuesday. Iām afraid I was disappointed with parts of the service & particularly my food. I ordered the club sandwich which was okay (had better) and the fries tasted & smelt of donut / waffle oil - couldnāt taste potato so had to leave them. My co-diner enjoyed theirs though - ordered the Croque Madame and was happy with their food. Service was not particularly attentive - could have been the time that we went as the staff seemed busy doing other things bar serving. When we were offered the dessert menu we werenāt told that some things on the menu were unavailable / sold out - a different server came to take our dessert order - when I asked for the chocolate cake slice it wasnāt available - definitely not my lucky day! Just thought it would have been good practice to say āwe do not have so & so on the menuā. Left feeling really unsatisfied - Iāve read glowing reviews and Iām really pleased that the business is taking off as I like to give my support locally but I wonāt be returning for lunch. Itās not quite hitting the mark for me. Coffee at the end was...
