We feel sad that we have to post a negative review regarding the standard of food we were served at the Ship , in Bawtry today .
My wife ordered the Salmon from the Specials menu at £15.95 . When it was served the Salmon was badly over cooked or had been left too long on the heated shelf and had completely dried out . It was served with 3 circles of overcooked sautéed potatoes and 3 overcooked asparagus spears.
We told the waitress serving about it immediately because it was so obvious just looking at it . We said we would rather bring it to their attention and avoid posting a negative review .
The waitress took the plate away and 10 - 15 minutes later returned with what looked like the same potatoes and asparagus ( canāt be sure about that but they were also dry and overcooked) the plate now had an equally overcooked piece of salmon that was half the size of the first piece that went back . I mean seriously tiny !!
We believe that a complaint is an opportunity given to improve but it was ignored or not taken in this case . Hence this review
I asked my wife if she would like to send it back again but the rest of us were already half way through our meal ( which wasnāt great but only Ā£11.95 and ok) so my wife decided she would rather let it go and save embarrassment.
We told the second waitress when she cleared the table that the replacement dish was no better and actually half the size of the initial piece of salmon . she said she would tell the chef.
Nothing more said by her or from the kitchen . My wife ate the fish out of embarrassment and because she was hungry but also out of respect to our two companions . Everyone of us agreed it was seriously poor and hugely over priced for what it was , basically half an overcooked potato and 3 overcooked spears of asparagus with a small dried up piece of salmon .
We have had reasonable meals at the Ship previously and usually at reasonable value for money . Today was a serious let down and we were all quite shocked that it was left as it was without any further comments from chef or staff. All in all, Very poor indeed, and despite be given the chance to put it right it was completely ignored . so unfortunately a very big š from us.
I would also say the Pinot Grigio Blush and Pinot Grigio White...
Read moreNew Management and seem to be struggling when it gets busy. The menus are a bit limited and 2 Courses for £15 looks good but it's the light bite with small portions. Food quality was ok but soup which was Leek and potatoes had a skin on top after being left standing. There were 8 of us with an advanced booking and we arrived 5 mins early. The bar service was non existent and the joint manager/ waiter stated order drinks now or I might be stuck in the next room causing a wait. He was true to his word and he served soup then 20 minutes later our food came. 45 minutes later he cleared the table and 10 minutes later he served the desserts. The bar was poorly stocked with one cask ale and limited choice of other drinks. There were only a couple of Gin glasses meaning alternatives had to be used. The menus were confusing and the blackboards have now been superceded with wallpaper of a flamboyant style. This complimented by an ornate folding screen and gold painted retriever of life size proportions. The decor is as confusing as the menu as it seems a mismatch to what was a local ale House but now seems to be leaning towards a wine bar which Bawtry already has a plenty. I hope the new management realise and redirect as its never going to be a restaurant and the place isn't class enough for the wine faithful . Serve quality vfm hot food and provide 3 cask ales /ciders and watch the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAvoid at all cost if you are under 60, and only families with quiet well behaved children. Food expensive for what it is (Ā£8 for a sandwich)
Saturday lunchtime, party of 10 ladies (16-60yrs) all ordered food, even though it was a tad pricey. Emma (barmaid) giving disapproving looks as we waited for our food to arrive. Chatting to 3 local visitors and having a laugh with them when Emma appeared, to tell us to be quiet as other customers were eating in other room and we might disturb them....! So instead of another drink (we had just spent £70+ on food alone) we left immediately. You would have thought that was it, but on passing said pub, half an hour later, we were saying goodbye to some people we had met, only for a guy to shoot out of the pub, to tell us to move away as they didn't like loud people round their establishment. As you can imagine, we were gobsmacked to say the least.
So in all I would not recommend this place to anyone, unless you are under some sort of sedation, sitting in a corner where you would be unaware of the unbecoming stares of the dour faced staff or are so rich that you don't mind paying inflated prices for...
