Ziniz Restaurant & Wine Bar — Restaurant in Doncaster

We were in a group of 6, on arrival at 7.40pm it took us half an hour to get served at the bar, fair enough it was race day so was busy.... The bar was very very unorganised with a supervisor/manager trying his best to manage the inexperienced staff around the tight space behind the bar.

We sat at our table approx 8.15pm the service at this point was satisfactory, we received our starters and more drinks but had to ask for our table water 4 times and had to actually go up to the bar to chase it up (it was busy so we let it go)

We finished our starters and then things took a turn for the worst... No one came for our plates it took approx 20 mins for them to be collected, then a further 30 mins before we tried to catch someone's attention take take our drinks order which were empty for the full time we were waiting, we also asked where our food was at this point.

To our surprise the waiter (a short older guy with a tie on) proceeded to argue with us about how long we were waiting for our food, he took our drinks order and went back and checked with the kitchen.... He returned after 10 mins (still no drinks) he argued with us a little more while at the table and said our food would be 6 mins precisely and our drinks are on the way.

Because of this shocking service we proceeded to use our stop watch just to strengthen our point the next time he came over... It was 17 mins until our food arrived (STILL NO DRINKS) Three of the mains were horrible, tasteless and chewy, the waiter offered to replace but considering the length of time they took we were not about to sit for another hour waiting for a replacement so we just didn't eat our food.

We finished our mains and sat for probably 15 mins before we saw our drinks start to be made... By this time we had had enough so we refused the drinks and asked for the bill...

The waiter did give us a 25% discount so we gracefully accepted as we have manners and to be frank we were in shock at what we experienced in such a nice place like Bawtry but we were all in agreement that it was not acceptable and even at the end we confronted the waiter at the service we received and he shrugged his shoulders and said 'well I'm sorry, don't know what else to say'

Our bill still came to over £131.00 even after the discount this is ALLOT of money for such terrible service, poor food and a ruined night.....

After sending a complaint to the restaurant I received a half hearted wishy washy response basically saying the same as the waiter and that the 25% was sufficient for the experience we had.... This the service is DISGUSTING and we will never be returning... We will be telling everyone we know and social media about...

As an Italian descendant and former head chef I don't often choose to visit 'Italians'. I'm so glad I did this time.

Ziniz is a special Italian restaurant and by far the closest thing to real Italian I've had in Britain...it is a real italian. The menu is brilliant and contains a remarkably wide variety of real Italian items, you've got duck and boar (popular in Tuscany), lobster which is famous on the west coast, fresh and herby risottos reminiscent of the Apennines etc.

The lobster, crab and shrimp pasta was actually a bit of a moment for me. You know when you eat something so good that you slow down and think about every flavour? I was smiling so much my jaw started to ache. Yeah that's this place, happy and delicious. Definitely the best pasta I've had in a quarter of a century. I have to go back 26 years to the last time I had pasta this good, hand made by my Nona. I heard the rave reviews and for some reason I put off a visit my entire adult life....I regret that now and I can't wait to go back. It's a 2 hour round trip and it's easily worth it.

The food is well priced. This is fine dining and you'll be waited, served and pay appropriately. We had a cocktail, starter and main each, some breads and a good quality wine and cocktail. All in we just hit £100. But it's the best meal out I've had in a seriously long while and I think crazy value. I've paid double elsewhere for this quality.
