The Bay Horse Inn — Restaurant in Doncaster

We took my Dad for Sunday lunch at Bay Horse. Booked the table for and arrived at 2 pm. Ordered food within 5 minutes of arriving - having choice of chicken, beef or pork as part of Sunday lunch. Told that veg was peas, carrots and broccoli - there was no other menu available. We all ordered chicken dinner - Our food arrived at 3 pm. Not the warmest. The Yorkshire pudding was a flat burnt disc, the chicken breast had no skin, was obviously cooked from frozen and was as tough and tasteless as old leather, as though it had been boiled for ages. I thought twice about taking some back home for the dog! The gravy was thin and cold. We had two huge bowls of carrots and peas between 3 of us - no broccoli - the potatoes were acceptable - overall, the food was absolutely shockingly bad! I told the waitress when she came to ask that the food was not good - said that I would not have served the chicken and Yorkshire’s to anyone - they were very poor - 10% was knocked off our bill due to my complaint but the bill was still daylight robbery! The Bay Horse was the best pub in Hatfield village with consistently delicious food - during our visit today it was way, way off the mark - I really, really hope that it improves by a long way or else we shall lose a wonderful venue - it is such a shame because the new members of staff were very good and worked hard - but I won’t be going back for a long time, despite it...

My wife and I have just been in for a meal and a drink, it was the first time since the new owners took over and we had seen the great reviews but I have to say we were extremely disappointed with our meals, we both had vegetable lasagna which comes with garlic bread, the lasagna was not layered as you would expect a lasagna to be, my wife’s was Luke warm ( obviously was not in the microwave as long as mine was ) The garlic bread was soggy, when it was held up horizontally it just drooped. We are not usually people who complain if we have a poor meal. The waitress who came to collect our barely touched meals never even asked if everything was ok even though it was clear we had barely eaten a few mouthfuls. We mentioned quietly that it was not very nice, the waitress said she’d have a word with the chef, we left 15 minutes later without seeing or hearing anything from the chef. Took almost an hour to get our meals. My wife ordered a pizza and was promised it was freshly made in house. What arrived was a shop bought pizza base which was later confirmed to be frozen, not what she was told when she asked initially. judging by the state of the topping, it was probably assembled on the frozen base so when cooked, the topping was dry, the barbecue sauce was burnt and there was no sign of any tomato. My wife refused to eat it and we only received a small discount off our bill. The remaining three dishes - Hunter’s chicken was not much better, the bacon was burnt, the bbq sauce was burnt at the edges, the chicken was dry and the chips were so hard that it wasn’t possible to get a fork in some of them.
