Found the Street Cafe by chance and popped in for breakfast. We were served by the most cheerful, pleasant young lady we have encountered for a long time, she couldn't do enough for us. We had mushrooms on toast and a welcome hot mug of tea. The experience was so pleasant that we returned later that day for lunch, and received a huge portion of Chicken Curry, rice and chips, all arrived quickly, and was excellent. Served again with lots of smiles from the young lady. I cannot agree with the other reviewers saying it is too expensive, for the size of the portions, and the service, I found it brilliant value for money, people forget that these places have high business rates and rent to pay, as well as staff, who deserve whatever wage they get and probably more, especially the waitress. To the people of Ely, you have an excellent cafe restaurant here, be proud if it, and those who run it, they deserve every success I have been back a few times now, and everytime it has been a thoroughly enjoyable...
Read moreUnfortunately the portion size has decreased and the price has increased here making Street Cafe lower value. The food is OK but just OK these days. I had a demi baguette with cheese, sausage, bacon and egg (they forgot the egg and I had to ask them to correct that). There was barely any cheese on it and minimal fillings and the cost was £6.50! Sadly it's unlikely I'll be going again - in addition to the cost increase, they are not open in the early evenings any...
Read moreHi I have great food at the street cafe food hot food but do a lot of breakfasts variation of choice of food. It'd be nice if they did a pottery not just a cup. Friendly staff nice decor though inside. But the chairs cannot be moved sometimes you feel a bit trapped in when that is the case. It might help putting flowers on the table. Might make it more karma in there if you have music in the background as well. I hope you do cheese toasties and all that...
