This was my third visit to Sushi & Salad, and was to treat my Mother for her birthday. We had been before, and absolutely loved it. This time was no different! The atmosphere of the quaint restaurant is always one of casual delight, and given to general conversations from all tables. The restaurant does have its quiet times, but is ways lively at peak times. Reservations are highly recommended!! You are greeted at the door promptly by the staff, who will seat you at a prepared table, and give you the menu. The staff are always prompt to follow up, but do not rush you, making placing your order when you are ready super easy. The restaurant prepares all of its food fresh to order... this isn't Yo! Sushi, after all! So it can take some time. Especially at peak times and depending on how many orders were placed before. On this occasion, our table was booked for 12:30, and with 10 minutes to decide what we wanted, we had our order placed. The food arrived quickly, just 20 minutes to provide everything. And we ordered a lot! Duck & housing rolls, Rainbow rolls, Dragon rolls, the restaurant exclusive Lov'Ely, Salmon Nigiri, and even a plate of yakitori and yakiniku (skewers). Presentation was perfect. The food came looking exactly like it had the last two times we had visited (back in March and June) and looked absolutely stunning. We began quickly devouring the delicious food, of which while I am proficient at using chopsticks from my travels to Japan, my Mother is not... at all! But the Sushi lends itself to using your fingers if you prefer, and no one criticises anyone for doing so. The table is set with several small plates and shallow bowels for the use of soy sauce dipping, and using to guard food from being dropped while it's transported to your excited pallet. As well as serviettes to use when needed. Once we had finished our order and serving plates were removed, the staff came with dessert menus, should we wish to do so. How could we resist?! The mochi ice-cream is always a great treat at the end... but on this occasion I caught eye of the Apple Guoza, served with ice-cream, and was intrigued to try them. I was not disappointed! They were like hot fried, crispy apple pies and are a genius Asian twist of the British dessert! Completely satisfied, we asked for the bill, in which you can provide a tip (value of your choice) should you wish to. The prices may put some people off, but for high quality sushi in the UK, freshly prepared to order, and with such lovely customer service from the staff it is completely worth it. A special note has to be made to thank Sushi & Salad who made my Mothers mochi ice-cream free, on the house, as a present for her birthday. This was made known to them through the reservation directions on their website, but was completely unexpected. Making the whole experience even more unforgettable. I look forward to visiting next time! My only disappointment is that they aren't open Christmas Day! šŸ˜† but I can't blame them for that, I guess! šŸ‘

To begin with, I must admit that all the times we've eaten in, it was fantastic experience with delicious food and nice service. However, yesterday we tried the takeaway and it was a disappointing. 1. First of all I can't just turn up and ask to get a takeaway, yesterday they said that I needed to wait more than 1 hour to collect my order. I fully appreciate it being a busy Saturday evening but I imagine if I ate in, it would definitely take faster. There might be special rules for takeaway but shouldn't it cost less then if I have to wait more? The waiting issue wasn't the most terrible though. 2. For 4 rolls we got just 1 unit of soya sauce. To be honest I don't think it's enough. Would you consider providing at least 2 soya sauces for this amount of rolls? 3. Salmon skin roll wasn't tasty and it was literally falling apart. I couldn't pick it up and dip into the soya sauce without it being fully destroyed. 4. One set of chopsticks was faulty to the extent that it was even dangerous to use. 5. We ordered salmon maki 8 pieces and 2 of them were the edges. I have always thought that it's not nice to serve the edges to the customers. They should be cut off and removed. It's not what I pay money for. Shame I have to explain it. I'm writing this review not to show my disgust and resentment (although I'm really bitterly disappointed) but for the owner of the restaurant to consider these points and improve them. I believe they are incredibly simple to improve. Hope you will take my opinion into account and become a brilliant restaurant.

Without a doubt, one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve visited in the UK! From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. The staff went above and beyond to assist us, even helping us bring in our baby pram. They patiently introduced the menu, explaining portion sizes and providing recommendations. We ordered the prawn tempura, salmon combo set, and beef skewers. The prawn tempura was exceptional—perfectly crispy with a light, non-greasy batter. The prawns were fresh, tender, and cooked to perfection. The seasoning was so well-balanced that dipping sauce wasn’t even necessary. The salmon combo set was a delightful surprise. If you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine, you’ll know how crucial the quality of the rice is. Here, the rice was impeccable—soft, well-cooked, and lightly seasoned with vinegar for the perfect balance. It complemented the fresh, smooth salmon beautifully. The sushi was incredibly well-crafted, with the flavors of the rice, salmon, and other ingredients blending harmoniously. Each bite felt like a single, cohesive dish, rather than separate components of rice, fish, and seaweed. Truly delicious. The only slight downside was the beef skewers. While the seasoning and sauce were spot-on—not too salty or sweet—the skewers themselves were a bit too dry and overly tough for my taste. Overall, it was an amazing dining experience, and I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine.

A Culinary Delight at Sushi and Salad in Ely: Service and Flavors That Shine.

Nestled in the heart of Ely, "Sushi and Salad" is a gem that effortlessly blends fresh, vibrant cuisine with warmth and hospitality. From the moment we stepped in, the excellent service and engaged staff set the tone for an unforgettable dining experience. The team greeted us warmly and on delivering the menus, offered thoughtful recommendation.

Our culinary journey began with the Dragon Roll, a masterpiece that was as visually stunning as it was delicious. Topped with velvety avocado and drizzled with a delicateĀ  sauce, each bite offered a perfect harmony of textures, from the crunch of tempura shrimp to the pillowy rice.

Next, the Chicken Katsu Curry Bento Box arrived, a comforting yet elevated dish. The crispy, golden katsu paired beautifully with the rich, aromatic curry, while the accompanying sides—tender sushi rice, tempura veggies and chicken karage—made every component a joy. Portions here are generous, ensuring you leave satisfied but never overwhelmed.

The Seafood Ramen was another star—a steaming bowl of umami heaven. The broth, deeply flavorful with a hint of smokiness, cradled plump prawns, silky slices of fish, and springy noodles. Each spoonful felt like a hug from the sea. But the true crescendo came with a d light from the specials board: the Otoro Sashimi, chosen as a special end-of-meal treat. This melt-in-your-mouth cut of fatty tuna was nothing short of luxurious, a buttery indulgence that left us in awe of the chef’s skill.Ā  Sushi and Salad isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience. The passion of the staff, the quality of ingredients, and the artistry of each dish make it a must-visit in Ely. Whether you’re a sushi aficionado or craving hearty comfort food, this spot delivers on every front. We’ll be back soon, eager to explore more of their menu… and perhaps another slice of that...
