Doesn't look like much from the outside, but what it offers inside is what truly matters...
My wife, son, and I decided to stop in for dinner here after our trip to Ely to see the cathedral, castle mount, and the other touristy offerings of this unassuming English village. (We had a wonderful time perusing the little town, but that's another matter altogether). We saw this place on our way towards the big attractions and decided to give this place a shot on our way out. We are so glad we did...
From the front door you are greeted with their small, unassuming bar and a foyer area where you can sit and drink your pint. A few of the locals were there already imbibing and enjoying a few and were helpful in making my selection of what to drink this evening. We arrived at 4pm and had to wait for 5pm for dinner to be served, but no worries, we past the time playing family games they had for offerings while we waited for the dinner time to arrive.
Once it did, we each chose what we preferred from the menu. I chose the quintessential Bangers and Mash, while my wife had their steak, and my son had a hamburger on pretzel bun - all of it arrived fast, fresh, and delicious. As an appetizer we picked the mozzarella balls - a bit small but still tasty and still enough for the three of us. For dessert we each had their sticky toffee pudding with chocolate cake and salted caramel ice cream - it was to die for.
The indoor decor is classic "British Pub" to me - all the wood tables, chairs, the dim lighting, it all simply looked good. They also have the biggest and most extensive beer garden I have ever laid my eyes upon - easily a place that can cater a big event like a wedding or big-number birthday. (I know I would celebrate one here, without a doubt.)
I think the only nit on the place was the service - though friendly and efficient, I wish they had been a bit more attentive - especially since we ate early on what appeared to be a slow Thursday night. Nonetheless, we walked away more than satisfied and happy to have chose this place to spend the latter part of our day at Ely.
If you are ever in the area, this is a...
Read moreWhat an absolute treat this was! The Prince Albert ticks all the boxes for what you'd expect for a nice traditional English pub. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking to experience a good ol' fashioned British pub, with a wide selection of beers & great quality British food.
I'd never eaten here before, but I'm so glad I did. Having lived abroad for the last 3 years - I was really craving a good quality Fish n' Chips and I got exactly that. Honestly, one of the nicest I've had since I can remember. A delicious golden crispy coating, delicate, juicy and flaky fish . Not too greasy at all and served with a nice mushy pea puree. Oh and the chips! Proper homemade hand-cut chips (chunky, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside) simply delish!
The bar staff were extremely friendly, helpful, polite and observative - exactly what you want went dining out. Really great pub with a nice atmosphere, highly...
Read moreA very nice place. It looks small from the front, but there is a large indoor area and an even bigger garden area to the rear. The service was excellent and very friendly. There is no parking here although there is a fairly big car park within a 1 minute walk. The food was absolutely fantastic. I had the burger and chunky chips while my friend had the cous cous, aubergine and asparagus tart. Everything was cooked to perfection. The burger was juicy and full of flavour on a semi-brioche bun and the chips, despite being extremely chunky, we crispy on the outside and fluffy like clouds inside. The only reason I could not give a 5 star was because of the beer. It seems the beer lines are not cleaned as regularly as they should. I hope was just an off day for that as it was a fantastic place that I will look forward to...
