Peking Palace — Restaurant in East Hertfordshire

I live abroad and usually on my visits to my mother near-by, we treat ourselves to a meal at the Peking Palace. This time we ordered a take-away. Several of the dishes were bland, smothered in a thick sauce, oily and lacking in inspiration. The fried rice had only a whiff of egg in it with nothing else added but oil. The bean spouts seemed out of a tin. However to be fair, the crispy duck in pancakes was good - up to the standard we had come to expect from them. When I returned to complain a few days later they tried to tell me it was my fault and that I had reheated the food in a microwave, which I had not done. They wouldn't give me any refund even though I had the dishes that were unacceptable with me. They finally conceded to offering a discount on the next meal. To say the least, I am not planning on eating there again. Not only was the food not up to par but the customer service was appalling and offensive without apologies or consideration that perhaps the food actually wasn't very good! Sorry Peking Palace! Ordered the special fried noodles, sweet and sour chicken balls,some egg fried rice and the veggie crispy aromatic duck, really looked forward to eating it but was very disappointed with most of the dishes, the noodles were very bland! It’s as though they forgot to put the seasoning in? The chicken balls were over cooked with dry chicken inside, and the rice was also quite bland, the veggie duck was okay but not as good as last time, the restaurant wasn’t that busy but the takeaway side was very busy with people waiting for their food, as the food was good last time although that was six months ago, I can only put down to when they are busy the quality of the food is greatly reduced, hence...

GREAT FOOD but SERVICE IS APPALLING. We have had a number of takeaways from here and the food has always been very good. However, we decided to eat in for the first time and the customer service is terrible. Some staff are very unfriendly and blunt. Also they make up the rules as they go along for the eat out to help out, not including children and add a COMPULSORY (in their words not mine) 10% service charge to all bills, with no prior notice. Definitely will not be coming here again for a sit down meal but takeaway is worth it as the food is good. Would score the food 5 stars and service 1 star, felt generous giving an overall 3. Real shame that the service lets down the quality...
