This was our first overnight stay in 'Betty' our new-to-us motorhome. ||In the excitement of collecting her I totally forgot to book a pitch for our first trip away but my husband found The Ship had a space for us, just £25 including electric hook up ( cash only) so we booked in and away we went. ||On arrival we were met by a lovely chap (I'm guessing the landlord) who welcomed us, told us where everything was and told us to park up and come and pay when we were sorted. ||Got ourselves parked and set up and then we headed into the pub for a drink and to settle up. The pub itself is cash only, not a problem as we were aware of this before arriving, the pub itself is lovely and cosy, very much a traditional local pub and everyone from the bar staff to the regulars was really welcoming and friendly. The pub doesn't do food but there are plenty of options about 15 mins walk away in chapel village so it wasn't a big deal for us||We had the most peaceful nights sleep and waking up to bright sunshine and countryside was blissful. There are showers and toilets on side, which were spotlessly clean which was an added bonus. ||All in all we'd most definitely return for another stay and would highly recommend to anyone. ||Got...
Read moreWhen I first wrote a review for the Ship Inn it was back in 2019 the food was brilliant the landlord and landlady couldn’t do enough for their customers. Since then the pub has new landlords, it’s still a nice pub for a great pint. Unfortunately we decided to have a Sunday Roast, and I paid for it when I ordered our food. What a mistake that was, the roast potatoes had been overcooked in burnt oil and were as tough as old boots. I like my cabbage, cauli and carrots with a slight crunch. But the carrots were almost raw. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt and the beef was practically non existent all for £8.99. As I said, had I not paid for it when I ordered our drinks I would have paid what I thought the meal was worth. And I’m pretty sure the new landlords wouldn’t have been happy if they were served this in another pub. While we were there people were ringing the pub and cancelling their reservations and we overheard one of the landladies telling someone that a group of 12 had sneaked out of the fire exit without paying their bill. Maybe learn to cook proper food or sack your chef if you want to keep your loyal customers coming back or just sell the great beer. And leave the food to people that know...
Read moreWe visited for a 2 night stay and was very disappointed. We've stayed on a number of occasions over the years and this was the worse yet. Admittedly, the pub wasn't open on arrival but had been told to just pitch up. The landlords were in the car park as we arrived but there was no acknowlement or even a simple nod of the head. Facilities are very basic. 2 toilets, one seperate and one in the shower room. No toilet paper and had to take our own. The pub was being painted and toilets were unable to be used during the day. Our pitch also had dog poo on it. On 2 further occasions, we found more, fresh dog poo so domeone had just let their dog out to deficate where it wanted. The site was also used by members of the public to park while using the pub and then made a racket upon leaving late. No food despite a hand written sign outside. The chef wasn't working following an operation but this could have been mentioned upon booking. The cost is £25 p/n including electric but felt this was stll too much. We will not...
