I have just left the place and I am so annoyed and disappointed I've had to write this essay. We were in Woodbridge today and in the past we would go to honey and Harvey for lunch. It's generally overpriced for the fair but given the affluence of the area it's not surprising. The place was busy so we thought we would come to Melton branch and I really wish we didn't bother. The brunch menu was a bit of a joke. The price of what little they had to offer was an insult and how they could ask £2.50 for a nutella doughnut the size of an egg is beyond me. Trust me it's not that I'm cheap oh not at all! But doughnuts are some of the cheapest desserts to make and produce in large batches which is the reason you can buy 8 full size for £5 and the store still pulls in 20% profit. We were incredibly hungry but we were put off by the price and the fact that the food on offer I could whip up in 10 minuets and for a quarter of the price even if I left myself a tip. The atmosphere inside was alright considering its basically on an industrial office site. The girls working we're pleasant and we were welcomed with a smile. Please dont take my furious review as an attack on the staff. We obviously didn't get any food for the above reasons but we did buy coffee. I have never had a cup of coffee like it. Bitter burnt flavour which gave me the the shudders. As someone who drinks a lot of varieties of coffee I could compare it to my local supermarkets value range. We would have taken it back to replace it for a cup of tea but my partner had heartburn after her coffee and we thought it best just to leave it.i am well aware that the coffee is mostly fair trade gluten free and free range but I think it needs to be reviewed as it arrived Luke warm. Highly expensive for the fair and an insult to the patrons. I'm all for supporting local business but I get the sense a chain has bought this place out and is selling high taking advantage on the coins...
Read moreWas heading for the Wilford Bridge pub for a refreshing soft drink while on a circular walk from Lower Ufford and saw this place which we'd seen from the road a few times and always looked inviting. Inside is very dark and food presentation didn't look very appetising especially considering the prices which would be steep on the High Street in Aldeburgh let also an industrial estate on a busy road in Melton. Went for 2 teas and brownie (total was a hefty £8), what could possibly go wrong? Both cups were stained inside and out as was the milk jug. Went back after already pouring the tea to get replacements and it took 2 attempts before being offered a clean jug. I suspect the darkness in the shop doesn't help the staff see what they are doing. At this point I took great interest in the cleanliness generally and found it somewhat wanting. Having checked reviews elsewhere this has been a theme at both their premises for a long time (pre-COVID) and there doesn't seem to have been any progress on this fundamental part of running a good cafe which doesn't show the management in a very good light. Ironic considering the proximity of East Suffolk council's environmental department... The brownie was pretty...
Read moreI really had high hopes for brunch at Honey + Harvey but was massively disappointed with the full English I ordered. The black pudding and hash brown I received were burnt to a crisp and were as dry as a doorstop, the ‘posh’ beans were far too adventurous and ruined by the inclusion of kidney beans that (subjectively) didn’t work and the tomato was not to my liking as it had no char to it as any good tomato should have as part of a fry up. In many ways the breakfast I had was all thrills and no substance. I think it would be extremely harsh of me to not comment on the quality of the sourced ingredients when clearly they are of a high standard but have been let down by the chefs/owners decision to plate it all up haphazardly forgetting what make a full English a good one. As a side note, I would also like to comment on the way there is no table service and how I was given a buttered piece of toast instead of a packet to butter it myself. For the life of me I cannot justify paying such high prices when such basic parts of the dining experience have...
