We stayed here for 3 nights. The room is nicely decorated, comfortable, spacious with a sea view. The king size bed was just the right level of firmness, not too soft and not too hard. The en suite bathroom was clean and a good size too with high quality fittings and soft fluffy towels. The whole room is well proportioned with seating space, enough storage and a good clothing rail. There could have been a wider selection of complimentary teas, eg herbal. The room is light and the stairs and hall leading to it is very secure. For a room in a pub it was quiet. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful, not just Steve and Karen who are the owners but the pub staff too. The breakfast options are more bespoke than other B and Bs with options like avocado and poached egg on sour dough bread and an open omelette with cheese, spinach and fresh tomato passata as well as the option of a full English. There was a good quality Greek yogurt and fresh fruit too. The quality of the local fresh produce was first class. We had lunch here too which boasts a large menu choice with mains as well as lighter dishes. The fish and chips was fresh, not greasy with good chunky hot chips. The halloumi with roasted red peppers starter/light dish was perfectly executed with very flavoursome red peppers. A bottle of wine is very reasonably priced compared to other places and the food menu is reasonably priced too. There is free parking opposite the pub which is dog friendly and it has a great seafront location. Would definitely recommend, good value for money and will return...
Read moreMyself and my wife went walking from Thorpeness to Aldeburgh and back. The wind was very keen and cold. Following exploring the shops in Aldeburgh we turned to walk back to Thorpeness. From the outside the PH caught my attention with smoke exiting the chimneys and an Adnams sign outside. The thought of a pint of Southwold by an open fire got the better of me. Once inside it became apparent that this is a food led pub as the first questions from the guy behind the bar was 'were we ordering food and had we booked '? My answer of 'no' didn't seem to be the correct one, it was 12.04 pm (4 minutes since opening) and with only two other customers in the pub my thoughts of a quick warm by the fire with a pint were now being replaced with exiting the door that we had only just entered. It was explained to us regarding the number of booked tables, the times of customers arrival and where we could sit. I did get a slight feeling that we were not the most welcome of customers that lunch time but have our drinks and a warm by the fire we did. We stayed for around 45 minutes and only as we were leaving did anyone else arrive. Beer was good and the fire was excellent, the menu seemed to cater for all. Didn't see the food so...
Read moreThe atmosphere was relaxed and cosy, with friendly and attentive staff.
I ordered the Surf & Turf - Rump Steak, Scallops and Langoustine, served with a prawn and chilli butter, new potatoes and onion rings. The steak, scallops and langoustine were cooked perfectly, but the steak was a little fatty for me (just personal preference). The prawn and chilli butter gave a lovely little kick to the dish. My boyfriend ordered the beef brisket - tender beef in a meaty gravy, served with steamed veg and creamy mash. "Very tasty, best brisket I've ever eaten"
We washed our meal down with a bottle of Adnam's Prosecco, a brand best known around the suffolk area for alcoholic beverages. Went down a treat!
To finish, I ordered the raspberry tart with cream and boyfriend opted for the raspberry and white chocolate roulade. The tart was light and fruity and the roulade, with chewy and crispy meringue was was also a light addition.
Overall, a very relaxed and pleasant experience 👍 The only thing that could have been improved was the time it took for our food to...
