Costa Coffee — Restaurant in Eastbourne

Coffee shop appears understaffed. The front of house area was very messy. A lot of food and rubbish on the floor. Coffee machine is also quite messy. Customer service was not great - customers were not greeted with much enthusiasm or warmth. I didn’t feel valued as a customer. Given the prices; an average customer paying over five pounds for a coffee and a shortbread, I believe the standards of the coffee shop mechanics should be far higher. There was only one order ahead of me in the queue and I waited for around five minutes before getting the chance to order. I feel more for those behind me in the queue. Came in close to closing time and Nat and Phil were incredibly kind and very personable. When a drink was made hot instead of iced like I had asked for, I offered to have them pour it straight over some ice and I'd have it like that, but Nat insisted on remaking it to be sure it wasn't at all warm. On top of this, they were about to throw away some pastries so Phil offered me the option of taking some with me. All the while both were making conversation with me and being very friendly. The coffee is good and you can normally get a seat. The main problem, which is why they lost a star is that there never seems to be enough staff on to take orders, make the food and drink and clear tables. This means something has to give and that means the tables don't get cleared. Shame.

23/01/2022 Ok so some time has passed and the cleaning hasn't improved. If anything the fact that one toilet is closed and the state of the disabled toilet is shameful. I have removed 2 more stars. This is probably the last...
