We have been here a few times and had very slow service so, when arriving at the entrance recently one Thursday evening, when the restaurant looked mostly empty, I was quite concerned it took 10 minutes for someone to come over and acknowledge me, even though I was observed by a senior member of staff and a waitress walked past me at one point. I asked about service times and whether it was well-staffed that evening and the Dep. Manager confirmed yes and wait time were "average". Hmm, average over what range, I wondered. When my husband arrived, we were seated at a table that turned out to be very wobbly. We were asked if we would like a non-wobbly table - which I thought was a curious question given most tables were empty. We were moved elsewhere and our drinks order was taken. My husband's order was a Peroni. After 10 minutes, the Dep Manager returned to apologise and say there were no Peronis. Husband asked what the alternatives were and chose a Moretti from the list. I am not kidding, it took another 10 mins for them to return, very embarrassed, to say that there were no Morettis either. On the revised list an Estrella was on offer to he chose that. I also ordered a coke for a 3rd member of our party running late coming down from the Midlands. He arrived shortly afterwards but we were still waiting for our drinks. They finally arrived 30 minutes after our order was first taken. I was getting thirsty! I had also ordered a jug of water but this didn't arrive till after the drinks. This did not bode well at all for the meal. We gave our meal order then, just mains, no starters. It took over an hour for it to arrive. We queried at one point if it was on its way soon, and it was still to be a while longer, but I was asked if I'd like to have another drink while I waited. I asked if it was to be on the house due to the delay, but it wasn't. I declined. The meal eventually arrived, and it was tasty, but now we were eating so much later than I prefer for a good night's sleep. We were offered dessert, but the time was now approaching 10pm, over 2.5 hrs after our very first drinks order went in, so we declined the offer and left. No adjustment was offered to the bill for the disappointing service, but of course a service charge was automatically included and we were also invited to give a tip. It is so frustrating; we have had similar service before and as on this occasion, it looked like no more than 6 tables occupied, some by lone hotel guests. The venue is an attractive one but I just can't understand whether it is just bad luck or something else going on when we usually seem to have to wait an inordinate amount of time for attention, drinks and food. One time, we had to wait over an hour for them to make their version of an Eton Mess. Completely perplexing. We used to come regularly with our mother who liked the venue. She recently passed, and my father's funeral was the day after this recent visit. The wake was to be upstairs in the hotel. This restaurant will no longer be no. 1 choice for family gatherings because of poor service and no attempt to provide recompense. I am sure there are other places keen to have our business and treat us with a little...
Read moreEasily a contender for the worst dining experience. A vastly overpriced menu, with very ambitious descriptions of the meals.
I started with what was essentially a packet of pork scratchings in a bowl with a splash of sauce - alarm bells.
I then paid almost £20 for a dry chicken breast with a slather of what was apparently "jerk" paste accompanied by some mass cooked fries - bizarrely however, to buy a chicken breast as an accompanying addition was £7.00...that would suggest they charge £13.00 for some fries and a tomato.
There was no check from waiting staff regarding the quality of the food , which was dry, needed at least the offer of some sauce...I would happily have offered feedback.
After 3 attempts to order drinks, 2 lots arrived within 10 minutes of each other, we then sat almost half an hour waiting for plates to be cleared.
"Signature" desserts, the brownie and sticky toffee pudding both sent back as inedible.
If I'm generous, this is an overpriced, low quality Wetherspoons (sorry Wetherspoons.)
Absolutely awful in pretty much all key areas - I'd have felt better off if I'd been mugged in the street...at least I'd know someone had stolen off me.
I will advise that at the point of paying the bill, the jerk chicken, the incorrectly charged drinks, returned desserts and service charge were removed...
Read moreWe thought that eating at a Hilton hotel restaurant would be a great culinary experience, How wrong could we be! The service was horrendous! The table only had two place settings despite being a table for four and it was at least twenty minutes before someone came over to take our drinks order! While waiting for our main course, we couldn't get anyone's attention (appalling) so my wife went over to the bar to get more drinks. The bar man wasn't interested. He made her wait fifteen minutes before telling her that because she was having a meal in the restaurant that he couldn't serve her and she had to order from the table. We asked to speak to a manager and were told by a server that they would go and find them only for them to return to tell us that the manager had left. In her defence, the restaurant supervisor (Helene) went straight over to the bar and made our drinks order herself. We were seated in the restaurant for a further forty minutes before someone came over to clear the plates and ask if we wanted desserts or coffee. As a goodwill gesture they removed the service charge and knocked money off the bill. Appalling service over all and not the level i would expect from a...
