Just had the most hilarious experience at this bakery. Please read on... Having enjoyed food from here previously and feeling peckish I dropped in for a hot breakfast snack and was delighted to see on the menu, big and bold on the wall, a breakfast bap. Listed was bacon, egg, sausage, tomato, mushroom. Even better, then was listed a set price for two items and a set price for 3. Combined with the friendly welcome from one lady, it felt good, and as I only wanted a sausage and tomato, I opted for the 2 item option, also slightly cheaper which would leave me the money for a purchase from the store next door. The friendly lady proceeded to prepare my bap, with some delicious mustard. She asked if I wanted just the one sausage or two, presumably as the bap was large. I confirmed one was plenty, with tomato. This is where the story turns... Another lady, serving someone else, then felt the need to intervene and clarify a few things for me (and presumably her colleague, who, during the ensuing drama, looked increasingly embarrassed). I was told I had to have a minimum of two sausages. I said that would mean I couldn't have tomato as I couldn't afford three items. She said, alright, just this time, we wouldn't normally do this. This seemed strange as this was clearly not pointed out on the menu, so I asked for clarification for next time. She said it had to be a minimum of two meat items (from this premise, a vegetarian wouldn't, for example, be able to have just mushroom and tomato). I pointed out that this didn't seem to be what the menu was saying, to which she replied , 'I don't even know why tomato is on there' and then 'I suppose as it says tomato you can have it.' Her colleague was then able to finish preparing my bap, to a final reminder that we wouldn't normally do this. With a grin, I suggested now she was trying to talk herself out of a mistake, to which she replied it was not a mistake. Now I don't expect a reply to my reviews, but should one occur, perhaps some clarification about whether or not my two items bap can be any two items from the list or if there must be 2 meat items (which is far more costly to the business than a few slices of cold tomato). And I don't want to 'call this number...
Read moreIt's is with great regret I have to write certain parts of this review. Let me start by saying nearly the whole experience of matts bakery from first walking in to devouring the delectable goods provided from the shop are second to none. Your greeted by the happiest most polite and courteous staff ive ever encountered in any bakery. I used to come to matts bakery when it was just the single shop next to the vets 25yrs ago and I still come here now they have the new store. The products are well made and delivered with such glorious wonder and I don't even need to mention the quality of the food but I will! It's absolutely blooming outstanding. From the sausage rolls to the full breakfast and returning to the sweet sweet confectionery and even the succulent soft bread. Whilst the price has increased over the years (in very fair rates may I add) the quality has always stayed supurb and even improved in certain items if that's even possible. The only downside to this shop is that you are unable to substitute an item on the breakfast in a box. I cannot ingest fried tomato as it has some adverse affect on my stomach lining and it makes me instantly sick which is something I never want to happen after ingesting such a beautiful breakfast. I have asked multiple times to substitute the fried tomato for anything else even more beans or a hash brown/meat item but have been told that the manager decided no substitutions are allowed. I am able to add an extra item for extra cost but I choose not too as I would be paying extra for no extra items due to removing the tomato option. Also the loyalty card point system has been changed so you now need to spend over £10 to save £3. After acquiring 10 stamps I'd like to be able to use the saving on any amount spent even if it means getting my item for free as I've already spent well in eccess of £50 minimum to get those loyalty stamps. This all being said I will not stop using the bakery as its been a stable place of purchase for me and my family and work colleagues for many years too date and will continue to...
Read moreExtremely rude Full of attitude young lady serving Us went in for the first time and was so delighted that a local business had this Shop and the surrounding area is so cute we loved the area however it is a shame the breakfast was dripping in oil completely saturated cardboard box that gave in was leaking oil and also the lady serving us was incredibly rude that we will not be returning or recommending this to others she had a very can’t be bothered lazy rude and unpleasant manner about her . We asked her a couple questions about the breakfast and everything seem like too much work for her to even give us a response either. She didn’t like the fact that we were Asians and we were the only Asian of sort in the shop regardless I don’t know what her problem is but she is so unpleasant and you are ruining business by keeping her in this place we have reviewed many breakfast places around Southampton and we never give any bad reviews however this lady is so disappointing There was three people working today. I don’t know her name but she needs to be called out about this we went today on the 16th of April around 2:30 pm. There was a tall lady and another lady and a bit of a old lady. I am talking about the one that was considerably larger than the skinny girl that was working Totally unpleasant and what a miserable person time going in, lovely settingWe like to support local businesses and mostly try out different breakfast places...
