The pub has been tastefully redecorated. It has a lovely cosy, welcoming feel, is clean and tidy with candles on the tables. I'd say it's a family friendly pub with reasonably priced food and drink. There's also a pool table and tv. Hot drinks such as tea, coffee and hot chocolate etc are available. The toilets are basic but clean. I didn't try the food because we hired the function room upstairs. The landlady couldn't have done more to accommodate us. They laid on lots of yummy cakes, the cakes seemed to be homemade which was even better! We also had unlimited tea and coffee included. We paid a very reasonable price. Other buffet options are also available at different prices depending on requirements but this is what we chose. The function room is clean and nicely decorated and accommodates up to 60 people. There is a small bar in the function room, it's cash only and doesn't have daughts but the staff offered us a waitress service for those. We felt very welcome, all staff were professional and friendly and we would return and would recommend this pub to others. The only down side I noticed is the grass area. It's very small with no play equipment and across the car park so children can't really play in there, this didn't affect us. Overall a...
Read moreSeamless booking via website & texts from kitchen to pre order as was arriving just before last food orders @5.45. One 3 course kids meal & 1 2 course adult £32 + £12 soft drinks. Large portion (crispy pork) came with roast sides & huge yorksire (not what the online menu listed & no menu on table but not unpleasant surprise as was Sunday so roast dinners expected). Yorkshire was overcooked but I enjoyed the crunch with the thick gravy. Roast parsnip felt undercooked & bit tough and roast spuds not crispy on outside or fluffy on inside but ok. Everything was tasty. Pork had great crackling but tough on bottom. Had potential to be a great meal, but was in the end a good one. Was hungry when arrived & not when left & price felt very fair for what you got. Very hot day & last servings so can't fault the kitchen staff. Service very good & did tip. Overall I would return (Kitchen shut Mondays) and was one of the nicer pub meals I've had let down only by potential to be a great one with more consistent...
Read moreI've just eaten at this local pub and have to say what an amazing meal. I had the beetroot wellington, in not a vegetarian, and it was the best I've ever tasted. I ordered a portion of horse reddish sauce to accompany it but didn't need it as the taste was more than adequate. There is a hint of cinnamon which sets it sets the dish off beautifully. The veg, cabbage, roast carrot and parsnip cooked to perfection. The cheese sauce, topping leeks was very moreish. The goose fat potatoes, yummy. All topped with the biggest yorkshire pudding. The service from the waiting staff was impeccable. Drinks orders taken and delivered efficiently. The young lady also checked at initial order stage if i was a vegetarian as the cooking process could be altered. We were ask about other dietary requirements.
Well done the Good Companion, will definitely call...
