Nice pub and the food was good but our two recent experiences were ruined by the staff.
We visited a few months ago with our dogs, it's great that the pub is dog friendly but we had to ask a couple of the staff members to leave us to enjoy our evening because they were constantly coming over to pet and feed our dogs, one girl in particular didn't seem to appreciate that we didnt want her to do this and as a result we actually left the pub instead of staying for a meal. I wrote to complain to the manager and they said this would be addressed.
Upon returning to the pub recently we sat down inside and have to confess to being a bit disappointed when we saw the same waitress working after we'd ordered, she came over to pet the dogs and spoke to them in a silly high pitched voice for quite some time, ignoring us but interrupting us none the less. I asked her to stop and she walked away. We then decided that as we'd ordered we would stay but that we'd move outside so this girl couldn't bother us whilst we ate. However within 5 minutes she was outside bringing more dog treats with her. I asked her not to feed the dogs and for her to allow us to enjoy our meal peacefully, this time she was a little more defensive in her response but did go. Whilst we were eating she came back again, so I asked her if I could speak to a manager, she told me that there was no manager working and that she hadn't been doing anything wrong I asked for her name and she refused to tell me. A young lady then walked up the steps at the outside of the pub and the two started chatting just away from the end of our table but close enough that we could hear the conversation, it lasted for 10 minutes or so, enough time for us to finish our meal. part of the conversation between these girls was a rather graphic description of the sexual relationship that the waitress was having with another member of staff, I really don't think that this acceptable, particularly given that there were children around the pub. We dont know the staff and couldn't tell you who the other staff member was but the conversation suggested that he held a more senior role than her which probably explains why nothing was done about my previous complaint.
Needless to say, we won't be visiting again. Being dog friendly is great but for us they were too friendly (to the dogs) and we found it rather disruptive to what would otherwise have been two...
Read moreWent there with friends on 5th December for lunch. When booking we were told they had a big party in and couldn't accommodate us until 1.45. Arrived early and place was virtually empty and no sign of other diners which implied they hadn't been busy at all! Waiter spilled a whole glass of red wine over my wife's top, jumper and skirt and some splashed on my friend as well. Waiter apologised and said, "I'll get you another glass" then, on return, said "we won't charge you for this"!!!! He made no attempt to clean up the table or floor and didn't even give my wife a towel or something to try and dry herself. They offered to get the items cleaned while we ate but, what did they expect her to wear while this was being done? Food was expensive and of below average standard. My starter of prawn cocktail came without bread and butter and without anything to eat it with. My 'mixed meat pie' was just braised beef with a few vegetables in a pie pot with no gravy added and a loose pastry topping which was just put on top of the pot - upside down even! Two of our party had fish and chips and the tartar sauce tasted odd and was very salty. The other had Hake but it was a very small portion of fish for £14. Had to suggest to them that (in view of the incident with the wine) the least they should do was not charge for my wife's meal They didn't charge for her main course but did charge for her dessert. All in all, not at...
Read moreTremendous as Craig Cash's alter ego would say. Staff very friendly and helpful, but not over pushy. We only stopped for a swift half but stayed for tea, sorry supper (forgot int posh bit of the south now). The outside seating is very pleaseant. BUY BUT BUT the food is "reet grand" as we say back home. It is a couple of quid more than your average pub but I can honestly say probally the best food I've had for several months and the beer was well kept too. We had (can't show you a photo because we had devoured it before I remembered to take one,) burger, children's fish and chips, pork medallions and a steak from the specials plus a couple of drinks each. Bill came to just over the ton (has that phrase gone metric yet (tonne), suppose it should as we've been decimal for 50 years now, but as usual I digress), which we thought was good value for money, especially for me as our lass was paying. 3 of the courses came with chips/fries, but in attention to detail they were all different (chips for f&c and two types of fries for the burger/ steak). I'm not a fan of asparagus, but mine was cooked "Bob on" and I finished the lot. Didn't have time or room for spice but they looked good ont menu. In summary well worth a visit, but not on a day when we want to go as we only got the last table and wouldn't want to be...
