Below average. Unfortunately that’s the only way to describe Banana Wharf Hamble. We booked for an anniversary celebration dinner however were left very disappointed. The service was very slow, having ordered and then waiting we were told that there had been a mistake and the kitchen hadn’t received our order so we were left waiting again. The food eventually arrived, my pizza was very dry and tasteless, probably the worst pizza I’ve EVER had. The staff were not friendly nor attentive throughout the meal. We were sat many times waiting for staff to clear plates etc, meanwhile they could be seen having a chat and ignoring us. To top it off, the staff were rude and unprofessional, taking empty glasses without saying a word and throwing the bill on the table and walking off without saying anything. We weren’t even asked how our meal was until I asked for the 10% optional service charge (which is added by default to all tables) to be removed. When I explained why I did not wish to pay the extra 10%, there was not even an apology. It’s a shame such I’ve felt the need to leave a poor review, in over 10 years of writing reviews they have almost all been 5* and I have never felt the need to ask for a service charge to be removed. I would not recommend this place and will never eat here again

Great service and great food. Plus all you can eat ribs on a Thursday! We were seated and served by friendly and attentive staff. One person at our table asked how spicy one of the dishes was, and the waiter brought a sample to taste, and was able to ask the chef to offer an alternative sauce. Everything was delicious and fresh. Thought the place was busy, somone was always on hand to attend to us. Garlic bread was as good as Garlic bread can be. Duck tacos were stuffed with delicious filling, packed with flavour. Hamburger was cooked to perfection. The salmon was yummy and prepared especially for the person who ordered it. The truffle fries were okay, they were not terrible but they could have done with a stronger truffle flavour and didn’t need the cheese. Coleslaw was fresh and light. Ribs were soft and delicious, fell off the bone and moist. The ribs sauce was quite rich, I recommend not having and starters, so you can have more ribs 😬 wish we came hungrier. Bonus: Dog friendly

My wife and I plus our two friends decided to eat out at Banana Wharf in Hamble to celebrate both wives birthdays. On arrival we were taken to our table which was situated in the fairly newly refurbished conservatory area, only to be greeted by an overwhelming wall of noise emanating from surrounding tables, the sound of people shouting across the tables became too much and we finally asked if we could move to a table indoors, only to be told that the noise indoors was even worse than what we were currently suffering due to the FA Cup Final being shown on live TV. The waitress told us that things should begin to quiet and down as the main antagonist would soon be leaving the restaurant as they were due to be finishing their meal fairly soon. Finally the volume from surrounding tables began to drop as customers began to exit the restaurant. Unfortunately the quieter restaurant was only short-lived as even more customers began to enter the restaurant and the noise level once again began to rise to unbearable levels. We finished our main meals and also decided that we were all ready to leave the restaurant without even ordering desserts or coffees. Finally I would ask Banana Wharf to consider their policies regarding the allowing of animals in eating areas. During the hour we spent in the restaurant there was a total of 5 dogs being brought into the restaurant where people were eating their meals. Please excuse the pun, but this is a pet hate of mine as I am a firm Believer that unless the dog is a working dog it should never be allowed in restaurants where people are eating food. So not only did we had to contend with overwhelming noise from people we also had to put up with 5 dogs barking at each other across the restaurant. This is a real shame, despite having a really warm welcome to the restaurant and really good service from the waitress's it has put us off returning to this...

Very disappointed after visiting here at the weekend. We motored our boat over from Southsea to Hamble, booked a short term mooring in the MDL marina and decided to have a late lunch here. On arrival they were fairly busy but not full, we decided to wait in the main restaurant until a table became available in the conservatory style room on the front. It was ready within 5 minutes or so and we were re seated.

The same gentleman who appeared to be a manager or front of house? Came and took our orders, we ordered our food at the same time. Pretty easy order - a chicken burger and a cheeseburger.

Our drinks came quite quickly. We finished our drinks. Took our 18 month old for a walk outside as he was getting impatient. Read a newspaper. Changed babies nappy. Watched the restaurant nearly empty, and several new tables seated and their food come out. Many of which were roast dinners which we hadn’t been given the menu for or offered when we were seated. Over an hour later a lady came to ask if we’d like to order anything?

The guy hadn’t put our food order through and had gone home! Terrific.

We had a hungry baby, and a 2 hour journey back and it was now nearly 5 o clock on a Sunday. The reason I have given 2 stars and not less is because a lady who appeared to be a manger came out and tried to make amends. She was very apologetic and tried to offer us something quick off the menu or something to take away. And the food looked good. Which is even more annoying.

By this point we were hungry, tired and we were going to sit there like lemons trying to entertain the baby or put any money their way. So we left.

We went to The Bugle in the end, an 8 minute walk away and had the best roast dinner I have had since I can remember.

I wish this had gone better as we are down the coast a lot due to our association with many businesses on the south coast and keeping...

Came here for breakfast on mother's day morning, overall the food was good however this was let down by the front of house staff. Ordered drinks and were left waiting for some time before the wait was acknowledged, during which time no one asked to take our food order. Two of our breakfast orders were muddled up, so we had to move the food around on the plates at the table. We weren't offered any more drinks at any point, and at least one member of our party left thirsty. It felt like it was bar service only and we were an inconvenience for stopping staff if they went past, even though it is table service. Staff were constantly moving/scraping chairs around on the floor, which made it difficult to hold a conversation as it was so loud, and such a shame in such a tranquil location. Once we were finished, a member of our party had to go looking for a staff member for the bill, to find several sat around a table. Unfortunately we paid the bill in a rush and didn't realise there was a service charge added on automatically, otherwise we certainly would have taken this off. Maybe a case of staff knowing they would get tipped without giving any customer service? Worth noting that it was not especially busy either. Disappointed to have picked here for a family outing, will go...
