We stopped over here for two nights , us two and two dogs |The room was very well appointed and clean with plenty of coffee and tea etc.||The shower was good , in fact almost too good as the shower and sink have tremendous water pressure so care needed filling the kettle and when I inadvertently turned the shower on too far for the first time the shower head nearly shot off of the wall.|Good double glazing means not too much noise from the nearby beer garden if you need an early night.|The Royal Victoria Park is a very short walk away and we'll worth a visit as well as the cemetery.|We ate in the pub the first night and had a very good meal ,the second night we had fish and chips from up the road and ate them looking over the sea .|So , reasonable price , good location, grade 2 listed building, comfy bed, dog friendly, good food and friendly staff and a good shower .|Minus points .. Taps on the sink very short which makes it difficult to fill the kettle and a fiddly handle on the door to the room which makes the door difficult to close from the outside if you have...

Not sure who wrote the recent reviews but it wasn’t our experience of The Prince Consort. The bedroom was very small, very poor & frustrating layout & the furniture looked like it had been bought at a 1980’s car boot sale. Bathroom felt grubby & unhygienic. The bed was appalling, no headboard, very cheap thin pillows & and a double mattress that was ready for the skip. Walls were paper thin & we could hear every noise in the neighbouring bedroom.||Breakfast was okay(ish) but we had real concerns about cleanliness. The staff door from behind the bar into the kitchen was a biohazard & didn’t bode well for the food preparation area. We chose prepackaged cereal & toast to be on the safe side.|I guess you get what you pay for, & this place is relatively cheap compared to the hotels in Southampton & Portsmouth. I guess you get what you pay for, & we regret not paying a bit extra & staying somewhere...

Fantastic, friendly pub that offers so much more than other pubs. Great for meeting up with friends and family or just a quiet one. The themed rooms upstairs are amazing, great bistro out the back, or you can order bar food which is delicious, while you watch your favourite team on the big screens. The staff are really friendly and professional. Make this your new local, you won't regret it.

Absolutely fantastic place to stay. Friendly staff, fine beer and phenomenal food. The burgers are excellent and the breakfasts fantastic. Poached eggs to perfection. Nice clean rooms, plenty of parking and a really interesting local area. A beach, a pond, a park an Co-op and a ruined abbey. What more do you need a stone’s throw from the best pub this side of the Isle of Wight? Thank you!

Stayed at this hotel on returning from France before driving home to Wales. All staff very helpful. The room was immaculate as I think it has all recently renovated. The price included a full English breakfast which was cooked perfectly. There was several other choices if you didn't want the full breakfast with toast etc
