Absolute shitt*r of a chippy, complete rip off and the staff attitude doesn't amalgamate with amblesides waterfront. (Seems to be a common theme in the reviews, miserable sods) £6.50 for one of the worst sausage & chips we've ever had, dont expect a local chippy size either must have been short of potatoes the portion we were handed. We sat outside the shop and my partner had brought some sandwiches out of her bag from home as she has some dietary requirements, we were quickly & rudely interrupted by a discourteous member of staff, abruptly stating that we should only eat food purchased from the chippy, when I pointed out I had purchased from the establishment he laughed and said what one pack of chips and a sausage. Yes you absolute 🛎 maybe question ones reasoning in future as opposed to assuming we're just sat there to eat without purchase, especially from a paying customer. We should have just bypassed your shop, Much better establishments locally, stuff this chippy........having over 150k followers on our Instagram about visiting the lakes be assured we will include you in our next blog!!!!

Response to owner, you absolute liar. Hand gestures and a picnic? if I was having a picnic rest assured it wouldn't be sat at one of your tables believe me, You acknowledge I'd purchased a meal, 1 or 10 whats the issue??? Who'd want to spend £26 on 4 sausage and chips anyway rip off! it was a large meal divided between my 2 young children. Whilst my partner and I ate half a sandwich each she'd brought from home. Your attitude stinks and it's well noted in the reviews. Won't be back like many...

We are visiting & after having a look at a few options, we decided to visit Ambleside fish & chip shop. Parking was pretty straightforward as we arrived someone’s was leaving. However, it may be difficult to park during busier times. We arrived approximately 6pm & they close at 7pm. The views across the waterfront were just amazing! That was one of the reasons we chose to drive 35 minutes to it.

We ordered 1 classic (Reg Fish & Chips, mushy peas & can of pop £13.90) & 1 Large (Fish & Chips w’ gravy & can of pop £14.90) I shared with one daughter & my husband shared with our other daughter. Portion sizes are quite decent. There’s seating outside (best option) or inside. We chose outside. The only downside is those pesky birds that scavenge your food. They didn’t bother us too much but please don’t feed them or they all hover around. Which is off putting.

The chips were my favourite 8.5/10 as we had a lot of crispy chips unsure if it’s because they were about to close. I usually love mushy peas but they were 4/10. Not mushy at all, slightly cold. The fish was 7/10. We have definitely had better elsewhere, however the staff were pleasant & we put it down to “they had a long day”. Hopefully if you go at a peak time everything will be fresh, the chips will be non crunchy & hot!

A couple we sat next to threw away all their fish & chips but they never complained which I thought was odd & a shame as I’m sure the staff could have resolved it.

All in all, I would recommend going 8/10 as I think our one-off experience can...

Sad to give this eatery only 3 stars. We have visited for many years but over the last couple something has changed. The location, views, and setting is great and very nice tranquil atmosphere overlooking the Lake Windermere. Staff are very friendly on the order counter and pickup counter (for takeout). It all went a little downhill from here, sadly. After waiting 20mins after placing order for takeout, which was no problem as appreciate freshly cooked food😀. Our order arrived, but it was incorrect on a couple of pointers. Firstly, our condiments ordered were missing. Went back to window to remind and retrieve the missing loot. Went back to car to find they had given the wrong ones then; beans and a mushy peas, we had ordered beans and curry! By this time we didn't want to waste time and food to go cold going back again. Secondly, they had put in a extra portion of chips that was not on the order, to some that would be a bonus🤩, but to us a bit of a food waste. When we got to the meals the fish was dry, the batter nice flavour but dry fish inside. Chips were of the poorer side of quality and a little on the greasy side also in some instances, along with the fish on one meal. Overall opinion, not to the quality expectation for price paid for the meals. But on a positive note, a very friendly but slightly chaotic service by the hard-working...

GREAT FOOD. When I turned up at this place I didn't hold out much hope. In the most popular tourist spot, with tables overlooking the lake I felt sure I was about to experience the tourist trap rip off. But with three kids and two adults all hungry and not many other choices for a mile or so I got on with it. How pleased I was so wrong. The food was excellent, I mean really really good, fried to order, fresh, tasty and good value. The fish was the size of a small whale, the batter crisp and not too greasy lots of chips. Best fish and chips I've had in ages and ages. Pleasant surroundings, fantastics view and great food. Would do a again at the drop of a hat. Lovely. Thanks very much.

We regularly visit this wonderful fish and chip shop when we are in The Lakes. Fantastic food and a stunning view overlooking the water. You can also sit outside the shop in a covered area on big wooden tables. Food is freshly prepared to order and portions are a good size. The homemade fishcake special was so good and a bargain at £6.75 with a hot drink. At busy times there can be a wait, which is expected, but you get a buzzer to alert you when your meal is ready to collect and at least you get a good view whilst waiting! The shop limits the number of people inside and you collect food from a side window. Staff are friendly and efficient.
