For context with this review, I’m comparing it to other airport restaurants I have been too. It is unfair to compare them to proper places, given the stricter regulations they must follow.
Coming home for Christmas is hungry work for a man. And I was hungry. The 1hr 30 minute journey on the A4 air flyer had taken it out of me and I simply needed something to eat.
When I’m out at a restaurant I try and go for something a bit adventurous. This place’s menu is your standard affair for a pub grub place; fish and chips, chicken tikka masala, burger and chips. Nothing to really stimulate the tastebuds.
I settled on having the most out their thing on the menu. The Korean BBQ Chicken Burger and chips, along with a pint of orchard thieves and onion rings.
The Korean BBQ Chicken burger was interesting. It tasted good, and I could taste each constituent element; the fried crispy onions, the black onion seeds. The chicken patty itself was well cooked and crisp. Where I think this burger fails is in its message. What is it trying to say? It is not at all spicy and is in no way bringing about Korean vibes.
The Chips were decent. They acted more like a vehicle for sauce however, as one is provided ample amount of Heinz and Hellmans a the table. I did despise however the free falling salt shaker, and Appleseed to a grinder. Over salted my chips - and no, I DO NOT accept responsibility.
The onion rings themselves were alright. They had a good onion to batter ratio, however you could tell they were form frozen and no love was put into them.
I enjoyed the fact they stocked orchard thieves, it is one of my favourite ciders.
The total price of my lunch was £30 which is very dear for what it is. However, this is a captive market and all of the places in this airport are like this. But i mean £18.50 for a chicken burger is pretty dire.
Having tried all of the restaurants in Bristol airport however, this is most certainly the best. I think this is down to the fact that the menu is small, and they aren’t trying to be too ambitious, unlike Frankie and Bennies which has too many items which they cannot make to...
Read moreInside Bristol Airport on a bustling Friday afternoon, awaiting the usual flight delay bingo, we sat down at the Brigg & Stow, finding a bar spot behind some fake grass, ordered some drinks and chips and made our peace with whatever was about to happen.
There are signs around encouraging you to order through the app, we were seated right near the bar service area and a trolley thoroughfare and could see into the kitchen from where we sat. The kitchen was busy and lots of people were ordering food and it looked like it was pumping it out at a fair consistency and quality.
The team here look like they are all working hard and doing their best, and I was grateful to observe their collaborative efficiency.
The trolleys came past with rapid regularity. The ringing clangs of cutlery and banter of children eager to get to wherever they were going, the 80s hits flying from the corner speakers made for a bustling soundscape. The savanna grass and plastic fern decor, that looked like they’d bought for a steal from a local primary school production of The Lion King, struggled to counteract the din, but it did the best it could.
The first of our orders to arrive were the two bottles of water. Room temperature, but necessary to avoid deep vein thrombosis.
The beers came next and they were cold, thank goodness.
The chips arrived and the sweet potato fries and chips were both hot and crispy and did their job as a pre-flight bar snack.
Katia, an exuberant server walked past and asked how our day was and asked us to review our experience. She was wearing a Google Review QR code on her lanyard. This is the result.
In a world of limited options, we were happy to find a seat, some chips and a beer. There is a lot of options, the app worked okay, and we sat and used the time to get excited about...
Read moreI ordered a chicken Caesar salad with bacon. The menu offered an option of Chicken Bacon This was to be delivered within 15 minutes of my order (via QR code from my seat) I ticked both as it wasn't clear if I'd receive extra, or if it was part of the original offering. Quite confusing on the menu. After 10 minutes, I received my fayre of lettuce, Caesar dressing, croutons and Parmesan cheese with a bit of chicken and no bacon. 5 minutes later, I received some more chicken with an apology that it was late. I realised at this point that the tick boxes were for 'extras', I commented that it was ok (ish), but I should have had bacon on this offering too. 10 minutes later, a plate of shriveled up bacon arrived! I imagine it was the missing bacon from the original order rather than the 'extra' bacon. I declined the bacon as I had eaten my salad at that point! Due to wishing to use airways, we are kind of stuck as, when in a departure lounge, we are a captive audience with little choice, few seats and extortionate prices. The salad was quite tasty, but, all in all, it was rubbish for the £14.99 Initial charge (for which there was no bacon) + £1.99 for extra bacon that never arrived (as I'd sent the missing bacon away), and, the £3.49 for chicken that arrived part way through my meal. If the menu was clear I wouldn't have ordered extra chicken or bacon. Conversely, if you advertise a salad to contain bacon, surely it should have some in it, not arriving 20 minutes after the initial delivery of the food. Thankfully, I don't travel via Bristol often, but I wouldn't return to your...
