I have never written a bad review publicly before, preferring to scroll past, but for this disgrace of a pub I make an exception.
I attended the Burcott for a large Christmas party which generated over 900 pounds of income for the pub, plus whatever was taken on the bar. Most people had more than one alcoholic drink.
The food was meanly portioned, poor quality and most importantly tepid to cold. I was going to provide feedback at the time out of courtesy… but after seeing the treatment given to one of our party who politely raised an issue with the food temperature, I felt too anxious to do so. A decision in hindsight I regret.
I can only speak for my direct experiences but from the small slice of the landlord - John that I got to see he appears to be a very aggressive, angry person who does not belong in the catering industry due to an inability to control his emotional outbursts in response to any feedback -albeit constructive.
John in response to the feedback was physically intimidating slamming the plate back on the table, almost breaking a full wine glass over one of our party. He was very verbally aggressive, not listening and refused to take feedback at the time saying he was in charge and there was nobody more senior to speak to. He said he would talk about it “after” but frankly I would not encourage anybody to be in a room alone with this man. The diner who offered feedback was visibly upset and wanted to leave, but felt too intimidated and worried about spoiling the evening for the others.
I would return to the pub to confront the landlords directly but they have issued a blanket ban on the whole party.
I can see John and his wife have not had their “ale and hearty “ business long but I can’t see it lasting too much longer if they continue to treat their customers in a way that violates...
Read moreUn pranzo inglese di domenica dove abbiamo avuto un misto per 2 molto abbondante, contorni vari al fine di febbraio. I come back with enthusiasm in July but I was very disappointed. I ordered hamburger and sirloin. Fries, if I never eat the leather, I suppose that was the taste and texture because if they say that the stuff is cooked at the time, the potatoes and onion seems was a leftover from lunch (or previous evening): never taste such sloppy potatoes. The sirloin was full with pepper but did not even have a grain of salt ( perhaps the cook exchanged salt for pepper..) The bland food and you must to ask for salt because they don't bring the salt to the table. I am an animal lover, but do not pet a dog and then serve a customer without washing your hands. Also a lot of confusion created by the way of speaking with a shouted voice of...
Read moreDidn't go into the pub but stayed for 6 nights in one of the 4 small cottages behind - can't find a separate Google listing for the cottages but I believe the owners are the same. There are many reasons we disliked this cottage (I won't list them all) the worst - and first thing I noticed - was the state of the drain in the floor of the wet room. It needed the best part of a bottle of bleach down it to make it just acceptable. So much for 'enhanced COVID cleaning', to me it didn't reach basic cleaning standards. Ironically the letting agents Sykes sent an email reminding us to "leave the property as you found it....." We speculated how long we would have to stay for the drain to get as dirty as we found it!! The bed was comfortable which made...
