Having seen some good reports for the above, we decided to visit last Friday lunchtime (24th)
I phoned to book a table on Thursday evening at 8:35pm and left a message on their answerphone leaving my telephone number and asking them to confirm everything was OK.
Almost an hour went by, and anxious to confirm with our friends, I rang again and this time the phone was answered, I explained about the message I had left, and they confirmed they had a table available.
We arrived promptly at 1 o'clock and were surprised to see the pub was almost empty, we asked for our table and the young man sheepishly directed us to a lady who was dealing with some other customers.
When she finished we repeated our request to which she replied, "Sorry they were not serving food, as the chef couldn't cope"
We were flabbergasted she then went on to say that they had only taken over the pub 2 months ago as if this was some sort of excuse.
I asked why they had taken the booking if this was the case, and why they hadn't telephoned us, as we had made a wasted 70 mile round trip.
No explanation was forthcoming.
Well I must say it was a first for us, and I suppose the moral of the story is to make sure the reviews and recommendations are up to date.
However all was not lost we had an excellent lunch at...
Read moreMy husband and I went to the Pheasant on Friday the 14th Feb 2025 . It was a wonderful evening from start to finish.New landlord /landlady were really friendly and welcoming. We were shown straight to our tables and given time to think about drinks and food. Menu explained to us with options and a deal for the night. Order taken and drinks delivered quickly . We had garlic mushrooms to start which were delicious and served with ciabatta bread. For the mains I had the fish and chips and my husband had rump steak and a side order of onion rings. It all came out piping hot, nicely presented and perfectly cooked . The portion sizes were generous . My husband ordered his steak medium done and it was just right. The batter on the fish and the homemade onions rings was delicious as was the tartare sauce. For pudding my husband chose the Manhattan Stack a which was recommended to him by the landlord and he loved it .I had the apple crumble which was lovely. Everything was perfect and we will definitely be going again and we highly recommend it. The pub had a lovely atmosphere and is child friendly .Music was on low so you could talk and there are a couple of sofas round the fire to relax...
Read moreWe were on holiday for a week and found this delightful little pub. It was my mums birthday and therefore had reviewed this pub and we weren't disappointed. We went on a Wednesday and were delighted to find that they were doing 2 main meals for 20 poinds. There was 7 of us and we all had a starter and a main. I'm quite a fussy eater and I was a bit sceptical about trying the chicken wings in salt and pepper with peppers and onions but it came out piping hot and it was absolutely delicious. The steak was absolutely gorgeous and done really well. A massive well done to the chef who was cooking for everyone on just a small oven as the main oven was awaiting repair. That said, we still didn't have to wait that long for our food and it was freshly prepared and very hot and we all absolutely loved what we had. They have a wide variety of drinks available including some lovely local ales. A lovely and very friendly pub at extremely...
