Buttercross Tearooms — Restaurant in England

First time at eating here, bit of a mixed review, the young lad serving us was brilliant, very attentive and tried his best at explaining the hold up with our food, 4 stars for his efforts. Drinks arrived on time, 30mins later our food arrive and I am sorry to say it was very hit & miss. A cream tea was ordered which was very good, so thumbs up for that, however the remainder of our meals were dissappointing. We were advised on arrival that the cook/chef had messed up another order and was frantically trying to rectify this, and I suspect this had an impact on our order, clearly we had arrived at a 'bad time', which is a shame as the service to begin with started off well, the setting is delightful with tables/chairs outside....and the cakes/scones looked delicious...... Food 2* Service received from the young lad 4* Atmosphere -...

Flippin' brilliant!! In spite of the naysayers a group of 6 of us decended on this joyous place for cream teas, and they couldn't have been more obliging, our group arrived in 2 waves but they were very patient while we all arrived. 6 cream teas were duly ordered, 3 regular and 3 gluten free, each accompanied by lashings of jam, cream and piping hot tea!! Now, the staff.......We were greeted and welcomed very warmly by a couple of young ladies, our order was taken and duly arrived, nothing seemed too much trouble, the whole thing was a joy from start to finish, and very reasonably priced to boot!! We will be going back, that's for sure, places like this are so very hard to find, and this one is a complete gem!! Many thanks to all the staff, we adore what you do,...

Very pleasant site in the middle of Somerton opposite the old market cross (or whatever it's called) Lovely staff, prompt, efficient and friendly. I would've liked raspberry jam with my tea-cakes, but there was only strawberry. A good choice of teas and I chose Assam. An extra tea-bag was willingly added to the pot as I like my tea very strong. Wife had oak milk for her coffee for which she was grateful. Lovely spot - quiet (surprisingly!) and with the spontaneity of the moment, our visit really made the afternoon special. A few independent shops were a great surprise, which were pleased to support, although we were a little saddened to see the demise of the Antique centre. Definitely recommended - do stop off there...
