As a customer on Tuesday 27th June I was able to witness the incident commented on by Grace and William. I feel the need to comment on what happened as there are elements of inaccuracy which are unfair on both Inspirations and the young man in question.
It is worth noting that the overcharging mentioned was in fact a massive 5p!! due to as I overheard, one old menu displayed on the counter top.
The gentleman challenged this incorrect price in an unnecessarily accusatory manner: however the mistake was admitted to and the offending 5p was duly returned by the young man with an apology and explanation as to why this had occurred. The young man was in no way unpleasant regarding this return however the gentleman refused the money saying 'Put it in your pot' (Why? I ask when you made an issue of this at the counter and in such a brusk manner). The young man replied that it really was okay and that the gentleman should keep the money. Next the gentleman came down to the counter and put the 5p in the tip jar. (This really did confuse me and I thought to myself, 'you have made a fuss over this 5p and you have had it returned: why don't you just keep it, you have had an apology for the initial mistake too, what more do you want?') The young man quite rightly in my opinion and once again quite calmly (which was impressive given the circumstances, I would have been furious) returned the money again saying the gentleman should keep the money because the menu was wrong and that Inspirations wanted him to have it.
The gentleman then walked out of the shop, returning minutes later to announce he wished to cancel his order. It was the lady this time who agreed to this and returned his money, next the gentleman demanded the young man's name.
Alarm bells rang in my head and I immediately thought 'I bet this man intends to put this on the internet.' Sure enough I find that he has left much of what happened out in order to paint inspirations and the young man in a bad light and has put the same patchy account on Tripadvisor reviews too!
My sense of injustice has driven me take the time to write about what actually happened and I worry that episodes like this must happen all too frequently in the hospitality sector and although I am sure that there are occasions when things are not done right, this was certainly not one of them. It is truly a sorry state of affairs that people can take to the internet and write whatever they want about anyone and it doesn't have to be true.
As it happens the lady (again quite rightly) didn't give the young man's name and the gentleman left leaving after all that, the offending 5p on his table!!!
My coffee I have to say was lovely and I found both the young man and the older lady to be very polite and perfectly friendly, well done Inspirations! it's a shame you have to deal with such unpleasant people! I...
Read moreThis is our second visit to Café Culture and we really like the place, hence we came back. The coffee is excellent. Now let me say here this is my personal feedback based on MY needs and expectations and I'm sure many will disagree as they would have different needs and expectations.
I had the Ploughman's Scone, which is described on the menu board as "A warmed savoury cheese scone served with pickle, pickled onions, and two slices of mild cheddar." I would describe the scone as barely warmed and lacking any cheesy flavour, the sandwich pickle was fine but the 5 small pickled onions were served with no means of picking them up other than fingers, which were then covered in vinegar. The mild cheese slices were less than generous and of the tasteless plastic cheese variety.
I give this personal opinion in the hope that the proprietors may wish to review this offering, other a nice...
Read moreI absolutely love this cafe, I went once a few years ago and remembered having a nice time so when my best friend came back from uni it was the first place I could think of when she suggested grabbing a bite to eat. Everything about Inspiration is lovely, the staff are helpful and even the customers are kind and friendly. The food is amazing (I highly recommend the brie and cranberry panini) and their inspired mocha is beautiful. I must also add, as a vegetarian I found in a lot of quite cafes there aren't many options for me when it comes to food but inspiration really goes above and beyond compared to any other small cafe. Will...
