I forgot that service this attentive existed! I visted with my partner and his parents for a 3 course dinner one busy Saturday evening, earlier this August (2025) & we had a lovely experience. The atmosphere was cosy/pleasant & the food was delicious. What I appreciated the most though, was the service - every small detail was considered, which added up to make a seamless and relaxing evening for us.
Despite the restaraunt being very busy, our every need was consistently anticipated throughout, without us ever needing to ask for a thing. E.g. being greeted & seated swiftly; every member of staff we encountered was very pleasant & attentive; a jug of lemon water for the table was provided at the start & this was maitained throughout the night (in addition to other, delicious drinks being served ofc); cutlery was set up promptly in advance of the main course after the starters had been cleared; ample fingerbowls/side plates & hand wipes were provided for the seafood dishes; an ipad with a picture of the specials menu was provided so that myself and my mother-in-law didn't need to twist around to view the board behind us; the meal was well-paced and the staff checked in to see how everything was with our food as well as remembering small requests about the orders.
I got the impression a lot of love and care had gone into the business/the menu. I also really appreciated that the owner also discreetly checked in to ask me if I was managing ok/offered me help with my king prawns. As a bit of a novice sea food eater (with Dyspraxia), I sometimes find it a little intimidating to order seafood in restaraunts due to there being a process/etiquette around extracting the meat, which I'm not overly confident with. However, the help offered was very kind, I was provided with extra hand wipes in addition the finger bowl & he talked me through the dish and why the prawns are served with the shell on (for flavour & texture), this was done in a calming/non-patronising way, which made me feel glad that I'd chosen to try something a little out of my comfort zone & I thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
It may sound like small things but I was struck by how consistently attentive the service was. It felt there was a lot of heart at Cafe Lilli, which made for a wonderful atmosphere, providing us with a seamless and...
Read moreI was very excited to go to cafe Lilly, I had heard nothing but good things. Firstly the service, decor and atmosphere were all 5 stars, 10/10. We were seated in a wee corner seat, which gave a fantastic view of the entire restaurant and give a brilliant vista to people watch. We ordered a lovely bottle of red and antipasti for our starter, and we assumed, as it had 2 prices, one was a single portion, and the other was a shearing plater, this was incorrect, the 2 prices indicated a small or large portion, something I've never come across in a restaurant before, especially in reference to a starter. We tucked into our large plate of meat, however, how it was served seemed odd to me, rather than individual portions of meat, the dish was served all... swirled together, which looked amazing, however, this made it impossible to get a small delicate piece of meat and instead meant you had to hack your way through multiple layers of meat to cut off a portion, resulting in more of an indistinguishable matter of meat rather than being able to identify the flavours of the meat individually. I appreciate we were eating a sing personal portion, but it just seems like an odd serving choice, I should have gotten the Chicken terrien, I know that now.
We both had the duck as our main, and, something catastrophic must have happened in the kitchen as the vegetables had been drowned in salt, no chef worth his salt (hahah) should have left it leave the kitchen, it completely overpowered the dish, which looked fantastic and the meat, although not medium, as stated was very nice indeed, the dish still edible but more akin to something you would get in a low-end gastro pub. Will I go back? absolutely. As I said the staff, the french
matradee and our fantastic waitress, the pleasant atmosphere and good decor made for a fantastic dining experience even if the food was disappointing, I will give the benefit of the doubt and come back soon as i think it was just unlucky both dishes...
Read moreMy family and I have been going here for many years, and have never once had a bad experience. The atmosphere is always pleasant and relaxed, and often has interesting art work for sale by local artists.
The menu changes frequently, providing a creative and diverse range of food that is beautifully prepared. There is a lighter lunch menu available during the day, with a dinner menu available on the evening. The special menu board takes pride of place, and offers a taste of something unique and fresh which may not always be available. I wouldn't pass up the chance to review this, as it has provided many excellent dishes.
The staff are always polite and friendly, and have an in depth knowledge of the food they are serving. To that end, they are extremely helpful in guiding the more indecisive person towards a meal that they will enjoy.
The premises boasts an impressive bar alongside their menu, and can provide beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks to suit all tastes.
I would deem the price range to be moderate to high for the area depending on what is ordered, but you are paying for a high quality meal in a well run establishment.
Overall, I would recommend anyone reading this to give this café a try so that you can find out for yourself just how good this...
