I had a delightful dining experience at The Charming Thai in Ellesmere Port (Rivacre Road, Ellesmere Port). The restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for a relaxed dining experience. The decor is simple yet charming, giving the place a pleasant, laid-back feel.
For starters, I had the Dragon Eggs (£4.75), spring rolls (£4.75), and Thai fish cakes (Tod Mun Pla) (£6.50). The Dragon Eggs were a standout—crispy tofu pockets stuffed with potatoes, garden peas, sweetcorn, and seasoned vegetables, served with a tamarind roasted peanut sauce. The tofu pockets had a satisfying crunch, and the filling was deliciously light and flavourful, with the tamarind peanut sauce adding a rich and tangy depth. The spring rolls were homemade, wrapped in rice paper and deep-fried to a perfect golden crisp. Filled with vermicelli, shredded cabbage, ginger, onions, and carrots, they were fresh, light, and full of flavour, served with a sweet chilli sauce that complemented them wonderfully. The Thai fish cakes were very popular—lightly spiced, deep-fried, and served with a sweet chilli sauce. They were crispy on the outside with a tender, well-seasoned fish filling inside, and the sweet chilli sauce added the perfect balance of sweetness and heat.
For the main course, I opted for the classic Pad Thai (£11.95), which was delicious. The noodles were well-cooked, and the balance of sweet, salty, and tangy flavours was spot on. The portion was generous, and the peanuts added a lovely crunch. My dining partner chose the Slow-Cooked Beef Mas-Sa-Man (£12.95), a mild-spiced southern Thai curry with coconut milk, onions, potatoes, and peanuts, garnished with fried shallots. The curry was rich and comforting with tender beef and a wonderful blend of coconut milk and spices. The mild heat was perfectly balanced, and the peanuts added a nice texture to the dish.
Service was friendly and efficient, and the food arrived quickly, despite the restaurant being busy. Prices were reasonable, especially for the quality of food and portion sizes.
If you’re in Ellesmere Port and craving authentic Thai food in a relaxed setting, The Charming Thai is definitely worth a visit. I look forward to returning to try more...

Read moreFirst time visiting, we had a takeaway. first impressions were really good. person behind the counter really helpful (even let me use his glasses)
We had the mixed starter, Thai fish and chips, and red thai penagn. The food was absolutely delicious, and we are really fussy. whilst the starter wasn’t really to our taste, it was definitely personal preference as the quality and care in the way they were packed was impressive. Same with the fish and chips, packaged in a cardboard container with holes so the fish remained crispy.
Will absolutely be going back to work our way...
