China Express — Restaurant in England

We recently moved to Sandy and had to try this place out. We went on Valentine day for the first time without reservations and the owner was there and was nice enough to find us a table for 4. He is actually what makes this place really awesome, aside from the fact the food is excellent. The staff are super attentive and I love the fact the owner takes the time to come over and check on us and chat. He is also super nice to my kids who are shy and they have both told me how nice he is and they love going there. The second time we went which was a few weeks later he was working again. Again, we had no reservations (we know better now) and they found us a seat. When we walked though the door the owner was busy with customers at the bar but took the time to come over and say hi, remembering all of us from previous visit. To me, this is what makes a restaurant truly great. I know that if we were unhappy in anyway he would no doubt make it right without question. First time using China Express. We ordered a meal for the four of us, and for us personally, we won’t be using them again.

Crispy belly of pork with rice - every piece of pork was so fatty and not edible at all.

The two chicken currys were very hot 🌶️🌶️🌶️. Maybe it’s our fault for expecting it to be mild or not spicey at all, like every other Chinese chicken curry we have had elsewhere.

I would have appreciated it to be advertised that it’s hot. But there was no mention of it on the online menu. We couldn’t eat it as personally too hot for us. The flavour wasn’t great regardless.

The two portions of crispy seaweed was nice.

The one portion of chicken chow mein was ok, we’ve had better elsewhere.

The one portion of chicken balls was nice but comparing to other Chinese takeaway/restaurants we use - they were very small.

The service was very good over the phone when speaking to the lady. Food was delivered on time (45 mins).

The quality of the food overall did not reflect price we paid. With delivery, our order came to £49, which was very expensive for what we got....

I’d like to give no ⭐ at all.

Ordered £50 quids worth of Chinese this evening. Not ordered in a long time as terrible the last few times, thought we’d give it a go tonight. Big mistake! Raw chicken satay! Phoned up to complain..was told I’d have to drive to Sandy to pick up the £7 I said I don’t think so! Eventually spoke to who I assume was the owner..very rude practically said I was lying. Eventually a driver came back and collected the raw chicken. I called up again about an hour later to see if it had been delivered back and inspected. The lady/owner refused to come to the phone and passed a message back saying the chicken was fine. Completely ruined our evening as none of us wanted to eat the rest of the food..£50 down the drain and possible food poisoning! Lots of pictures taken and I’ve now reported to the food standard agency. I will take it further purely because of the lack of care and rudeness of the boss lady!!
