I visited this restaurant last night with a friend. The first course came out and after one bite,I found a hair in the food. I called the waiter over & showed him & he went off with the plate and then came back with the same plate and hair and told me it wasnt anyone in the kitchen's hair because they were all dark haired and the hair was a blonde one and they didn't have any blonde people working there! I told him it was in the food when I bit into it so it must have come from the kitchen. Off he went with the plate and hair again. He again came back and insisted it wasn't any of there staff and it must have fallen off my head! He then got the hair and laid it out on the table saying, see its blonde. I was getting annoyed by this time & asked him to take the hair & plate away. I ordered chow mein for the second course and the same waiter ( who i think is the owner, older man, grey hair),put the food on the little heat tray and decided he was going to take it back as he said it was burnt. I told him it looked fine to me and he pointed to a little bit of onion that was darker than the rest of the meal but which I was fine with. He insisted on taking it away so by the time I received the new chow mein, my friend had almost finished her meal!! I wont be going back there. Plus there was a lady who ventured from out the back, clearly a member of staff, showing people to a table and serving and she was blonde!!! Not worth the trip...
Read moreThis is 100% the very best chinese food i have ever had. I shared prawn sesame toast and salted chilli mini ribs as starters with my wife. The toast was fabulous but the ribs... wow! They were to die for! Amazing!
For my main i had chicken schezuan and crispy shredded chilli beef and egg fried rice. The chicken schezuan was fantastic, the rice was wonderful but the shredded beef... i have never tasted this done so well. Any other chinese i have tried just pales compared to Choi's.
The service was prompt, polite but in no way pushy. The bill was £44 for two of us which would be good anyway but for the quality of food we recieved was more than a bargain.
I was so impressed i asked to meet the chef. I was taken thru to the kitchen and i thanked him and bowed with respect.
Stunning! Go there... you...
Read moreOakham seems to have no Chinese restaurants...so we drove to Uppingham, 5 miles away and we are so glad we did. The food and service at this diner was fantastic! We had the set feast meal* for 2 persons at £22 pp. Extensive menu with lots of options. *Chicken noodle soup starters, followed by half crispy duck - pancake rolls, cucumber etc, mains included egg fried rice, thinly sliced fillet steak sizzling dish - delicious, sweet and sour pork, spicy chicken all cooked to a high tasty standard. We had Chinese tea, but coffee or normal tea available with set meal. Complementary prawn crackers. Lovely clean decor, attentive service not rushed and dining tables nicely spaced out. We will definitely return this time next year...as part of our annual trip to Oakham. Highly...
