Good location and the restaurant is nicely decorated. We were the first customers late afternoon but by around 7pm, the place is almost full and buzzing with youngsters in big groups.
The not so good verdict however were:-
At the time of booking, we were told that they are open all day. We arrived half an hour earlier than our expected booking of 5pm but we were then told that the Chef only starts at 5pm. The two male staff who served us though when we arrived were nice and apologetic about the lack of information from their end. By 5pm, more wait staff arrived and we were able to place our order.
Must say, the online menu is different from what we were offered and though we like the idea of a selection of small plates (small portion) which is ideal for kids (they do not have a separate menu for kids), the portion is a lot smaller. We have ordered a small portion of seafood paella for our 8yrs old and it came with only 2pcs of prawns. We kindly showed it to the server and she brought 4 pieces to the table which we thought was very kind but only to find out that we were charged extra £4 for it. For all its worth, we could have just ordered the regular size and it could have been presented better, too.
We had paella with chicken and chorizo, chicken supreme, and fettuccine with crayfish and seafood bisque. In general, the food was ok and can do better especially the fettuccine; it was too creamy, bland and there's hardly any crayfish on it.
We also find an oval plastic sticker (supplier logo) on the slice of lemon in one of the paella. We told the lady server assigned to our table. She acknowledged and said sorry, shrugged her shoulder and walked away.
It is a shame that the service and food here is not as good as Neville Arms in Medbourne; both belongs to the...
Read moreWhat a lovely place!!! I had Sunday Roast for the first time. Could not have picked a better restaurant to inaugurate it. It was extremely busy when we visited the place and the service was a bit slow, however, it was expected as it was happy hour, sunday roast and bank holiday all amalgamated. The staff were really polite and friendly. This wasn't the first time for the company I was with and they have always had an excellent time and were given exceptional service.
All I can say is the food was worth the wait!!! We ordered buch of starters as we were all starving. The honey chorizo was lip smacking and the peppers were perfectly charred and not heavy on the tongue 😋
The star of the evening was definitely the roast. I opted for chicken. The veg to meat portion was perfect and the chicken was beautifully cooked. My partner makes the best yorkshire pudding (according to me), but here it just tasted different, it was light and crispy and I believe there was an alternative flour used. Whatever it was, it tasted amazing. The portions are apt and the gravy was just the right amount to not overpower any natural flavours and it was easy on the price so it's a no brainer that our family has decided to make this a monthly thing.
I will highly highly recommend trying roast dinner here, but, also do not shy away from their lovely set of offerings. Their pastas and paellas are delicious too!!! It's a must visit restaurant if you live in...
Read moreOur first visit to Uppinghams’s latest dining venture and we loved it. The buildings stone facade front has been restored and matched by a tasteful renovation on the inside. A nice layout, creative decoration and elegant furniture have created a pleasant dining area. We had lunch which was a delight. Crispy Cavolo Nero and Padron peppers are 2 of my favourite nibbles and both were on the menu and done really well - a good start. As small bowl of samphire risotto was creamy and delicate, aided with a little bit more of that cavolo nero, giving a taste sensation. For main I had the Pork Cutlet, served as a classic combination with calvados jus, fondant potato and petit pois a la Francaise. It looked good on the plate and tasted even better. My wife had the roasted aubergine, which she loved. Served with pepper tagine (one up on pepperonata), feta cheese and pomegranate it again looked good on the plate with a taste to match. We resisted the temptation of desert but regretted that later. A good wine listed which we left to try on our next visit. The menu was not over adventurous, but looks to give a good feel for Mediterranean cooking - good ingredients cooked very well. Service was informal and effective, hitting the right balance. Overall a lovely experience which I’m sure we’ll...
