Always great coffee in this swanky little coffee shop in Uppingham. My go to is a flat white and so many cafes (particularly large chains!) can’t get it right. But the flat white here is lovely with a froth that lasts for the whole drink and a deep rich flavour. As you might guess from the name the decor is wooden and earthy. Relaxing. I’ve been a few times now. Service was great today but sometimes no connection or smiles which is my only criticism really. Smiles are free! I’ve not tried the food which all looks very ‘artisan’. I’m sure it’s lovely. Overall a great place to visit.

In all, a very good experience at Scandimaina, and the feel of the cafe was very nice. However the food took a while to arrive and customers that arrived after us, got their food before us. The food was good, but lots of the menu was unavailable so we were forced to choose something that we wouldn’t usually have chosen. We had avocado on toast with red onion and hot chocolate which was very good but a little overpriced.

Superb selection of cakes- we purchased the coffee/walnut and lemon/ almond ones. The goats cheese/chutney/walnut toasties on sourdough were very tasty, as was the moist chocolatey banana bread with cinnamon butter. Peaceful atmosphere in the courtyard. It’s always a pleasure to visit Scandi.

My partner and I visited recently and ordered toasties and coffee. I was asked ' would you like chocolate on your cappuccino?' to which I replied 'no thanks.' The food and the coffees arrived and I bought it to the attention of the waitress that the cappuccino had chocolate on it even though I'd asked for it without and she said that she would change it, though she didn't take the old one away. Some 15 or twenty minutes passed and no sign of any replacement and all the while other customers who'd arrived later were being served. I went to the front of the cafe to find out what the problem was and was told that they would attend to it and bring it over to me. No hint of an apology. Another 15 minutes or so passed and still no sign of any service! so I went to the front of the cafe again and was told that they'd completely forgotten my cappuccino! It was then made as I stood there waiting. A little later a clearly embarrassed waitress came to the table and gave me a stamped loyalty card entitling me to a free drink but effectively quite a pointless gesture. Mistakes happen, but generally I'd expect them to be addressed when bought to...

Was really excited to try this place and as someone that’s gluten intolerant was excited to try their gf options.

Called ahead to make sure they had gf (as sometimes places don’t - which is understandable). On the phone they said yes, but we got there and the person we spoke to on the phone wasn’t in that day and no one knew anything about their gf being out of stock. Apparently they’d sold out, so we thought we’d come back earlier another day.

Second attempt and they had gfo on the the menu, but the waitress was really rude in saying ‘no’. She first said they were out of stock of gf toasties, then said they were too busy to make one (to which I said it takes the same amount of time) and then they changed their mind and said they come pre made (despite having a toastie machine, kitchen and prep area). There were 5 people behind the counter and two people in the kitchen, so very surprised about the food situation.

Not so fussed about not having gfo, as it’s sometimes hard to keep stock, but it was how rude they were dismissing it. No apologies, no...

Appalling

Was going to write this review three weeks ago but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Wish I didn't and stuck by what I said the last time I was in. Never again. Been a customer for over 6 years but the service I have received recently is piss poor. Beginning to take it personally as I'm not your usually Rutland type of customer. Coffee and cake, the staple diet of a day out. Get the cold cake to take to your table, wait 10 mins for your drinks by which time the cake is eaten. Then wait a further 17 mins for the warm banana bread to arrive whilst watching the customers who arrived after you tuck into their warm toasted sandwiches. As I said, this isn't a one off. But the icing on the cake is being served a cold beverage in a plastic container with a plastic lid. My daughter isn't 4, she can handle a proper glass, she's...
