Appalling Experience at Cotton Wheel Pub – Mouldy Food, Poor Service, and Questionable Hygiene I visited Cotton Wheel Pub while waiting for my car to be repaired, initially encouraged by the helpful staff who guided me through the menu. However, this fleeting positive moment was quickly overshadowed by a dining experience that was nothing short of deplorable. I ordered the salmon with chips, corn, and jerk sauce, expecting a decent meal. To my absolute horror, the corn was served flipped over, and upon turning it, I discovered it was mouldy—a shocking failure in food safety and quality control. I immediately alerted the server who had delivered the meal, who identified himself as the chef. When I pointed out the mould and asked if the corn had gone off, his response was a dismissive “I don’t know,” which was not only unprofessional but deeply alarming coming from someone responsible for food preparation. The chef escalated the issue to the manager, but the response was utterly inadequate. There was no genuine apology or meaningful effort to rectify the situation, leaving me feeling dismissed and undervalued as a customer. The staff’s indifferent attitude in the face of such a serious issue—serving mouldy food—was simply inexcusable. To add to the overall poor impression, the cutlery setup raised further concerns about hygiene. The forks and knives were haphazardly placed in open trays on the counter, looking pretty dirty with handles mixed in with the eating ends, increasing the risk of cross-contamination. The presentation was careless, and it did little to inspire confidence in the pub’s cleanliness standards, especially after being served mouldy food. I left Cotton Wheel hungry, frustrated, and thoroughly disappointed. Serving mouldy food is a gross violation of basic hygiene standards, and the staff’s lacklustre response, combined with the questionable cutlery setup, only compounded the issue. I strongly urge the management of Cotton Wheel to overhaul their food quality controls, improve staff training, and implement better hygiene practices. Until these critical issues are addressed, I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a safe, satisfying, or even remotely pleasant...
Read moreI am not reviewing as an eating customer but a Weds night visitor who plays in a pool league. The table is shockingly poor, stains on the cloth and holes galore, the slate has obvious deformations and rolls dramatically. We tried to level the table, but first had to deal with the toothless on duty manager who belligerently wouldn't let us touch the table, for reason not truly known other than she had the power to say no so did... We ended up just ignoring her, if she wanted us to remain in the pub and spend our money then we had to straighten the table, lest it remain unplayable. Also on Weds pool league matches, food is often provided. To help pay for this a football card is sent round, I think it extremely fair that a venue tries to cover their expenses this way so I am more than happy to participate if I want some food. But after we'd paid our dues, there was no food. So we had been stung for cash, only to be left without service... The same toothless manager didn't care and refused us our money back. I hate playing at this venue, crappy table, poor service and the vast tv screen sits inches behind the pool table with everyone viewing over your game just to croon at the latest scores... A huge disadvantage, especially on champions league night. I often hope that this place would just burn to the ground but I worry that the trogladites who attend as regulars would be lost and have to venture to the JFK... Which has enough of it's...
Read moreNot a bad pub, if a little rough around the edges but then you get what you pay for I guess. An expansive menu, although when it came to ordering I was advised some items were not available- which is becoming more common at the moment everywhere with distribution/staffing issues so fair enough! The woman on the till was very nice although absolutely rushed off her feet it seemed, it was apparent her shift had ended but she was trying her best to serve customers still, so fair play to her. I was in on a Monday so there was an offer on the steaks, whilst not the best steak I’ve ever had for the money you can’t go wrong really! I asked for medium-rare and that’s what I got, although no one came over to ask if my food was ok. I noticed that a lot of the staff seemed to know a lot of the other customers who were also eating, so a good locals relationship which is nice to see, but maybe a little more care for new/traveling customers wouldn’t go amiss. There’s an adequate car park...
