We had a lovely evening and there were definitely some highlights, as well as a few areas that could be improved. The artisan bread with olive oil and balsamic was excellent, and the hummus was tasty , though a drizzle of olive oil and a touch of sumac would have lifted it even more. The prawns were cooked perfectly with a delicious sauce. The beetroot and pear carpaccio had good flavours, but the beetroot would have been better sliced more thinly, and it could have used a little more acidity ;some citrus slices would have complemented it beautifully. The chorizo sauce was unfortunately far too salty, making it difficult to enjoy. The scallops, on the other hand, were cooked to perfection and paired well with the sauce. The arancini were absolutely wonderful; crispy outside, soft and flavoursome inside and as a goat’s cheese lover, I particularly enjoyed them. That said, they too would have benefited from a touch of acidity, perhaps with a simple tomato sauce on the side or as a base. The rainbow trout was well cooked, but the cavolo nero garnish was overly greasy and difficult to eat. A lighter side, such as a lemon-zest potato salad, or just blanched greens would have balanced the dish much better. The oil pooling on the plate was a little off-putting, though the sauce itself had potential – a lift with garlic and citrus would really have taken it to the next level. For dessert, we tried the crème brûlée and the pear tarte tatin. The tarte tatin had a nice flavour, but the pear was chopped into very small pieces – serving it with larger slices or half a poached red pear would have looked and tasted more refined. The brûlée unfortunately fell short of expectations; it lacked the richness of egg yolks and tasted more like plain cream than the classic French dessert. Overall, there were some excellent moments and a few dishes that truly stood out, but also several areas where refinement could elevate the experience...
Read moreWine choice excellent. Frequented four times. But each time, i felt slightly more un-welcome. I realised once again in the county of Chesire; hostility, negative stereotyping and patronising racial undertones. Finally it dawned on me, if you are a white, middle class, resident: i am sure you will be treated like all the reviews have suggested. But alas, unfortunately as a tall, black woman, haloing Afro hair, i stopped frequenting. This was because of the atmosphere that was created when i walked in to buy wine; or the condescending remarks of 'it is expensive' or just being plain ignored, with a puzzling look on the staff's faces. (where has she come from/ what shall we do with her?). A waitress even giggled at me at one of my wine questions (as if i was childlike clueless)... The very abrupt manager snapped back. I hear you cry in defence, "Get that chip off your shoulder". I do believe that this type of judgemental, white, middle class behaviour is what creates the beautiful crack in the first place...*Sigh is it 2019 in Chesire or the or the Colonial 18th century ? Needless to say, i have moved back to the city (after 3 years of incidents like this) and will not be...
Read moreVisited on a Sunday. On canvas it looks nice etc. Once seated it took nearly half hr to take drinks order after waving someone over awkwar. We all ordered Sunday beef lunch. When it came out was shocked how it was served.. Potatoes all slung in one bowel and same with the vegetables making it difficult to get to them. Potatoes undercooked. Vegetable again under cooked to point of raw and no where al dente and gravy watery the beef however was nice. When trying to order more drinks we had to try and wave someone over even though it's a small restaurant and wasn't busy. Before we said we had finished the waitress whipped away the food left on table. When I went to toilet i saw through the hatch in kitchen eating tthe leftovers!!!Found the staff to be unwelcoming and far from attentive. When we left we through the deli part, suprised to find out none of the items are locally sourced. All in all very underwhelmed and there are far better establishment locally for a better service and the food and less dear but...
