Have been to this milk bar many times on our midweek breaks to Wooler, but our last visit will be just that "our last". We had just been to Bamburgh for a few hours and resisted a visit to the local ice cream van in favour of waiting till we got back to Wooler to visit the Milk Bar. When we got there a couple of outdoor tables at the side had been replaced by a self serve milk machine and most of the outside seating was by the busy main road. We have a Border Collie that is a bit nervous of heavy traffic so we asked to bring him indoors as we have done previously, but no, not allowed now! With hindsight we should just have left as we have done at other dog unfriendly establishments but the people at the only side table left so we went for that. We ordered two knickerbocker glories as a treat and a doggy ice-cream. Very disappointed when two chocolate sundaes arrived, no tall glass no strawberry or raspberry coulis or sauce , two scoops of our least favourite ice-cream "chocolate", one scoop of vanilla ice-cream some tinned fruit salad whippy cream a flake and chocolate sauce, as far removed from a knickerbocker glory as you can get. I know we should have complained but we just didn't need the agro and we felt the gentleman behind the counter whom we have never seen there before was very abrupt and unfriendly. Couldn't fault the quality of the ice-cream even though it was mostly chocolate but very disappointed it wasn't what...
Read moreOh my word what a great little find! Hubby and I stopped here for a brew whilst on gallery deliveries in the area.
It’s right on the main road as you approach Wooller from the south. Just turn right then immediately left and there’s plenty of free parking too!
It’s bigger inside than it looks and have several booths and a larger seating area for bigger groups/families.
Happy smiling staff as you walk in too! Very nice welcome :)
The ice cream selection all sounded great but I chose white chocolate with raspberry which was absolutely delicious! And my single scoop in a tub was actually a really good sized amount and I felt it was excellent value! Very very happy with that!
I also had a tea (two cups from the pot - always nice!) and hubby had a latte, both really good and again, great value!
They also had a range of cakes and bakes including quiche and savoury pasties - all of which looked great!
There is also a large, very clean toilet with baby change facilities.
There is a takeaway window down the side and outdoor benches too for those with muddy boots or dogs :)
Keep up the good work guys!
I have saved you to my favourites in Google maps and will be very happy...
Read moreWe're fairly local and have visited a few times now, each time really hoping for a better experience. The ice cream is nice but we bought bacon sandwiches a couple of months back that were awful, dripping in whatever they had been fried in (we actually threw them away) We'd also bought coffees, which we also threw away (instant coffee with a skin on top charged at fresh coffee prices). We chose not to complain as the staff are always unhappy there so didn't fancy confronting them.
It's such a shame, this could be an awesome place if they served better quality (edible) food & I'm sure it gets a lot of 'one off' business from the tourists....but as locals, we won't be going back (we went again yesterday for ice cream & the staff are as unhappy as ever...they're not rude, but obviously really...
