We had breakfast here this morning and were really disappointed both with the service and the food! On entering we were allocated a table and we took our seats and food was being taken to other diners and we sat for five minutes without any further acknowledgment so I went to the counter to find a menu and and to be informed after enquiring that we needed to order our food there. When the food arrived the bacon, hogs pudding, and egg was well overcooked, the toast was soggy in the middle and dry on the outside. The mushrooms were fresh and tasty the best part of the meal. On leaving the waitress stared at the food I had left and wasn't concerned at all at what was left uneaten! No when enquired if all was well, no one thanked us for our custom or even said goodbye. I would advise anyone wising to dine in Newlyn to definitely swerve thus place we certainly will....

Without doubt the best place in Newlyn. After very disappointing experiences in other Newlyn pubs and restaurants who made us feel quite unwelcome, Duke Street Cafe was our final attempt at getting a meal and drinks. We are so happy that we did. My wife, 3 children and dog were made extremely welcome by the absolutely wonderful staff here. Our experience got better and better as we we served with the best food we've had in the area. Such a relaxed atmosphere after a very poor start in Newlyn. We love Cornwall but noticed in a few establishments the growing trend of putting up posters saying 'Homes not Holidays' which when this is the first thing you see upon walking into a pub, makes holiday makers feel unwanted from the start. Somewhat hypercritical when they're taking your money. The Duke Street Cafe was perfect though and a real pleasure for us to have been...

Very sorry for the relatively low scores, I had been expecting better.

Having made a detour to get to this café (my choice), we arrived before 3 pm and there was nothing to eat but cake, take it or leave it.

We were hoping for a late lunch. Sadly, it was too late for warm food or even a sandwich. It felt as if we had intruded on their end of day tidying up routine. It was a huge contrast to the previous day where (on arriving much later in the day and much nearer to closing time) the staff at The Cabin on Perranuthnoe Beach pulled out the stops after what appeared to have been a very busy day.

I have been here once before and quite enjoyed the experience, hence the stars. Not this time, the cake was okay and the coffee would have been excellent if it had been...

Stumbled across this wonderful hidden gem after driving by, on our way to Mousehole, hundreds of times!! Never really stop in Newlyn, but now we have the perfect excuse. The staff are wonderful, so friendly and the cafe has a lovely decor. They have an outdoor area which is where we sat, in the glorious sunshine. Their is a resident seagull ( isn't there always ) but the cafe water gun keeps it at bay !! Lovely food, but bacon a bit undercooked and greasy for my liking. They do cater for gluten free customers so another tick in the box. They serve breakfast til 1 on a Sunday....perfect.

Great ambiance the restaurant is very popular and always busy. Inside, it’s tidy and clean, with a great food menu offering plenty of choice. It’s definitely a high-end place, so the prices are a bit higher and portion sizes are average / normal. The only letdown is the service, which could be improved. Staff should pay closer attention to customers and check in every few minutes to make sure everything is okay and nothing is needed. We went for the sea platter to share with 2 people it hardly had any clamari on it so just bare that in mind. It’s just next to a car park which is handy.

We were welcomed by a kind member of staff upon arrival. She greeted us warmly. It was very busy so we sat outside under the cover, we went on a damp day so they provided blankets and cushions. When you come here, you'll never be disappointed. The cakes are always extremely delicious, homemade makes such a difference. There is a large selection available, we had a chocolate brownie, like and coconut polenta and a ginger cake. The cakes are presented nicely.
