Good food that is prepared fresh and is authentic curry. Consistently good, limited menu, that regulars enjoy. Gaining in popularity, and more up market than the other curry restraunts around and about. Lovely venue with pleasant staff. Good selection of Gin; served with fresh Rosemary was particularly pleasant to the pallet. Clean and very attentive, can't fault it really; I've been going regularly and I'm not easily pleased. What's not to like.
Changed my mind after discovering that, despite offering vegetarian and non vegetarian meals, all products are fried in the same fryer. They are aware of the cross contamination from meat products but there is no mention of this on the menu, did not mention it to the customer when ordering, and they are clear that the onus is on the customer to tell staff when ordering that they want their vegetarian food fried seperate to meat. This includes all fried starters, including Channa Puri, the bread is fried!! Truly shocking. I have asked many times when visiting that there is no meat product in the vegetarian food, it was only when I used the key words of "cross contaminatiorn" that they came clean about their "carefully prepared meals for the vegetarian", laughable. After many years, will I be going...
Read moreSet in the main shopping area of Sherburn in Elmet the restaurant has 2 entrances, in the rain a rather slippy route over wooden decking leading from the micro carpark and a safer entrance on the high street. We were shown to a waiting table next to the real fire, ordering drinks (2 bottles of Saltaire Blonde) while we perused the menu. The "kitchen" eschews the usual Indian restaurant type of menu which makes a pleasant change and to that end we both decided on the Venison Jal Chat. What a choice, 5 stars from both of us, Venison in a sweet and tangy sauce with just the right amount of chilli, if only we'd left after that. The dishes that came after, for the both of us, were sadly very nondescript. Chicken something for me that lacked both seasoning and any kind of spice heat whatsoever and apparently my dining companion's was similar. The actual dining plates were warmed but the side plates holding the rice were sadly stone cold and unfortunately the Peshwari nan had so much sugar on it it was a dessert in itself. Service was acceptable apart from it took 14 minutes from requesting the bill to actually receiving it, no excuses they weren't exactly packed out. In conclusion, a fantastic start but sadly downhill...
Read moreThis is the best restaurant in the area by a long way! The staff are very professional and friendly in fact, any one wanting to be a waiter or opening a restaurant should visit to see how it should be done. The restaurant is spotless, comfortable and decorated, furnished to an excellent standard. So nice not to be subjected that horrible colour changing lighting that many indian restaurant's seem to think a good idea. The food is excellent and it's good to see a menu that does not just contain the usual suspects. I would personally like to have seen more vegetable (especially) and fish options though as I don't eat meat. I dare say that they would adjust a meat option if asked though but it would be better to see it on a menu. This place is excellent value for money for both food and drinks. It's charging no more than the many average standard restaurants in area and much better value (and food) than the restaurant at Brotherton. This will be my number one choice...
