Once we actually got in, the food and wine was lovely and we had a great night. Just what we need in the village. Getting in was the challenge. As “walk-ins” at 7pm mid week, we were told they were fully booked and we were not allowed to stand at the bar as its table service only. We were therefore turned away. I walked outside, looked at their website and found plenty availability from 8pm onwards, so I booked a table. While we waited the hour at the local pub, we met someone else who was turned away. This is not going to provide longevity for a sustainable business. I would have expected someone to have checked the reservations and say, “we have availability from 8pm if you want to come back” or “ we have a table but we need it back in an hour” ( in the event there was a no show or the occupants of a reserved table left before their 2 hour booking was up). Front of house showed a lack of experience in this so maybe some teething issues that need resolved quickly. Their comment at the time was “we were fully booked for the time you walked in”. Locals need the opportunity to be able to just pop in, especially an establishment that is not a restaurant and...
Read moreWhat a great start team MALT. Clare and Ant what you have created for Sherburn has been a long time coming, and so was needed, wow you guys nailed it. Tom you were amazing on your first big day and evening, your services and the team around you was great, well done Kieron your leadership and positive influence on the team really showed. We ordered the Charcuterie Cheese board for two to share with a super choice of cheeses, some we had never tried but took a leap of faith; what a great selection for cheese lovers, this was accompanied by artizan crackers, sourdough bread, olives and pickles, all sourced locally. Throw in a great bottle of Mendoza Argentinian Malbec and bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and with the piano playing softly in the backgroud my wife and I had the perfect night chatting and enjoying the ambience of MALT. Just what Sherburn in Elmet needed. I am also looking forward to the occasional visit to work in the upstairs area that you have opened where we smaller business can mix with other like minded Micro businesses, and not feel so lonely. 10/10 from...
Read moreHave given 4* because we thought it had great potential. The atmosphere was lovely, had live piano on, plus a great selection of drinks and lovely vibe.
However, unfortunately let down by the service. Everything took a very long time in terms of someone coming to take our order, then our food arriving (5 piece charcuterie board) then one missing, and some confusion later our missing item came. We wanted to then order dessert and a tea/coffee, we waited just under 40 minutes for our table to be cleared then we ordered, unfortunately our dessert came, which we ate then we waited about another 5 mins for hot drinks which again, would have been much better served together. Overall quality of the food was very tasty too.
I have to say we really wanted to love it, but just felt a bit let down. I'm not sure if there was an issue that day, as the table next to us placed an order but waited a long time and then it turned out the kitchen never got the order? So maybe an off day...
But if they improve the service I have to say we would love to come back and try...
