What a spot. We visited the Ferry Boat in twice, on our most recent visit to the Falmouth area, having been here a decade or so ago.
Rain or shine, the location is simply beautiful, and the Ferry Boat in really is an excellent spot to kick back and spend an hour (or few) chatting, or practicing that most peaceful of meditations and watching the world pass by.
Great selection of beers, both draft and bottled, with a decent number from Cornwall; spirits and wine were also well represented.
The staff are clearly happy here, and have a buzz about them, I have to say that on a very busy visit they were unfailingly cheerful, and managed to keep the place running smoothly (food and drink) despite long queues and large crowds. It was one of those time where I thought I'd be waiting for an age to get served, but things just ran quickly.
We didn't eat, so I can't comment on the food beyond saying that it looked great, and that it was lovely to see such a large number of specials, it shouldn't be a suprise given the proximity to the coast, but I'd imagine the seafood and fish are very good.
The drive in was a pig, with queues of traffic on the single track road in, but it's worth it, do remember a pound coin for the carpark!
If you're in Cornwall, make a trip, the view is sublime, the pub superb, the little beach great for family and...
Read moreWith a prime location on the banks of the Helford passage, the Ferry Boat Inn is a classic spot to enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon. Whilst the food is generally spot-on, have had a few issues on recent visits. On our most recent visit, our mains were served immediately after our starters. The waiter apologised and returned mains to the kitchen. Unfortunately, when the mains were brought out again, the food looked tired having sat under a lamp for ten minutes. My seabass looked tired and crab linguine was not particularly warm and lacking in freshness. Although the flavours were excellent, I felt a little let down considering the price.
Prior to this, on a Sunday afternoon, I was swayed from the traditional roast, by my favourite dish in the world-- coq au vin. Being on the special's board and knowing the Ferryboat's reputation for fantastic food, I ordered. Much to my disappointment, what emeged from the kitchen was chicken drumstick in gravy - clearly not the rustic, slow-cooked French classic I had hoped for. Left feeling a bit misled and disappointed, especially when all of my friends delicious roasts emerged from...
Read moreOn our visit it went wrong from start to finish. Despite being some of the first people in at 12:30 they already looked in utter disarray. We then waited more than 30 mins to see any drinks and over an hour for bread and olives. It took 1hr and 40mins for any food to hit the table and even then they had forgotten one persons order. The food was cold when it finally arrived. Water requested for the table (of 6) took several asks to arrive and even then with only 3 glasses. As harsh as this will read I would struggle to highlight something that went well. On the plus side they acknowledged they had had a disaster and our bill was adjusted accordingly, but it was too little too late. What was supposed to be a nice Easter lunch was a complete waste of time. Sorry guys but you need to seriously step up your organisation as you will have far busier days this summer. I'm not sure how long the current management has been there but you looked very...
