How do they do it? Greggs is that rarity, a comforting place to be at a very competitive price. A cup of coffee, a bacon baguette (no butter, no sauce) with extra bacon, and a request for slightly well-done bacon (I don't like fat) is my usual order. If the bacon is a bit anaemic, then all fat is removed, which is why I order extra bacon, to make sure I have adequate filling. Although I've been buying the same thing for years, I'm still amazed how cheap it is. To placate my conscience, I always buy 10 kids breakfasts. The final bill is still only about 30% of what I pay in some places a cooked breakfast. It may not be as healthy, but it can be more satisfying if the bacon fat is well caramelised. I had a conversation with one of my daughters recently about our favourite Greggs. She prefers Skelton, which is the one we frequent often on Wednesday mornings, whilst I like Cleveland Retail Park. We're going to neutral ground for our Wednesday soiree tomorrow, with a visit to...
Read moreWe got food and drinks to eat in. My husband asked if he could please have an extra tea bag (as he does in every Greggs we have been to). The assistant pulled a pained face and said no, that if he wanted one, he’d have to pay for another cup of tea! We said that this was the first time ever he’d been refused an extra tea bag, or told he’d have to pay for it. We were told in no uncertain terms that if she did this, it would be classed as theft! That even staff weren’t allowed stuff for free, so why should we think we were entitled. We were somewhat bemused when while we were sat eating our food (as a VERY dirty table) an uber driver came in to collect an order. While he was waiting, he asked for a cup of tea, and put the money on the counter. He was given the tea, and the money pushed back in his direction, which he put back in his pocket!! Still waiting for the teabag police to be called and make an arrest for theft!! Certainly won’t be...
