This jolly café is a super welcome addition to Backwell, and was much needed. There’s loads of great things about the place, and a few things I reckon could make it even better.
The tea is great (I’m told the coffee is too, but I can’t stand coffee, sadly, so wouldn’t know). The cakes have been uniformly lovely (and I’ve eaten a good few of them).
I was really pleased to see they’d started offering brunch, and tried one of their ‘bagelinis’, which was really tasty. Couple of things though - there’s not really anything on the menu yet that I’d actually classify as brunch. It’s more light lunch fare.
Also, I’d much rather pay a bit less than £7 and avoid having the coleslaw, root crisps and leafy bits with balsamic glaze included. Personally not a fan of all the extra bits that sometimes get included in café food, and would rather it was optional. Of course, I’ve got no experience in working in hospitality, so don’t know whether that’d make it a bit cheaper anyway. But thought £7 was perhaps a little bit pricey.
The final adjustment I’d make is I think the volume of the music is just a touch too loud - I wouldn’t be able to work in the café, personally. Don’t get me wrong, I love a bit of loud music, but not when I’m having a conversation.
Anyway, small niggles aside, it’s a really nice café. I hope it has lots of success and keeps...
Read moreLovely friendly atmosphere, such a friendly barista! Did us a tea cake even though they're not officially on the menu yet 😉 (coming soon I believe!). Four different varieties of non dairy milk - very impressive 🤩 as well as a good selection of plant based cakes/slices! (Also do bubble teas and milkshakes for the sweet toothed!)
Very relaxed, not too busy, family and dog friendly... Also, some lively items on sale by local craftspeople - although you'll need to count your pennies! Really beautiful crafted things - might be thinking about Christmas...
My friend had wanted toast which would be a nice addition to the menu, and softened butter with the teacake would have bumped the food up to five stars!
Update: been back a second time and still thoroughly impressed! It wasn't very busy but the manager is so friendly and I really hope this becomes a permanent fixture! My companion this time had an oat hot chocolate...
Read moreI was truly hoping this new coffee place to be a good one, well… 3 stars at the most:( coffee is just ok, I’ve tried better and I’ve tried worse. Cakes over priced for what you get and the worst pain au chocolate I’ve ever had-it was stale, cold, no taste to it…service is very slow in my opinion, there were 4 people behind the counter doing not much and only one person in front of me, the cafe was empty, it took 15 mins for my coffee! it’s ok if you’ve got time on your hands, but if you want a coffee on your way to...
