(Just an edit to say they ended up calling the manager and they were very nice and it was resolved amicably which we appreciate)
Honestly I don't leave bad reviews which you can see from my previous reviews on Google but this is without a doubt the worst pub experience I've ever had. Made worse by the fact I hadn't seen my family for a long while and I'd just flown in country and we'd arranged to meet at this pub for what was meant to be a quiet, relaxed dinner.
It was one of those you have to laugh or you'll cry. I do want to add a quick note to say the lady with the glasses was lovely and was the only good thing about the visit. She deserves huge praise for what she had to deal with and I feel so sorry for her having to put up with it all.
Firstly when we arrived we didn't have a table ready even though we booked 2 days prior. When we eventually got sat down it took another 25 mins for someone to take our drinks/food order and then after we ordered we waited so long for our drinks we had to chase up about it.
After an hour had passed (of us entering the pub) we tried to find out what was going on and ended up being called rude by this young lad for just trying to find out where our food was (ok you might have been stressed and having a bad day but come on that's no way to talk to someone).
The lady with glasses I mentioned before was an absolute star, she apologised for her colleague which wasn't for her to have to do but we appreciated it non the less.
Then our food arrived. Dear god if it wasn't bad enough already half the food was burnt, the pie order was incorrect and the fish and chips + Gammon was so salty I actually had to stop eating it (again not something I'd usually do).
Now I will say as with all bad reviews it's up to you if you chance it. Clearly they've had glowing reviews in the past and it could of just been a really bad day. They were clearly understaffed so you never know if it'll be ok to go to in the future. But personally I'm not sure I'll bother going back which is a shame as it looked...
Read moreWe had a really disappointing experience on Fatherâs Day. We had booked a table for lunch. On arriving, no one welcomed us or said âIâm sorry Iâm busy, Iâll be with you in a minuteâ. After informing 2 members of staff that we had a table booked, we were still stood waiting for over 10 minutes. They wanted to seat us in the bar on a high table which was unsuitable for young kids. I insisted on sitting in the restaurant, and eventually agreed to. There were only 3 staff members for the bar and restaurant and they seemed rushed off their feet despite only being at 50% capacity in the restaurant.
We only ordered mains, and after waiting an hour we were told that our food order got lost. The waitress did apologise but did not offered us bread or anything else. In the end it was 90 minutes before any food came to the table, meaning our children were very upset and hungry, and spoiling what shouldâve been a celebratory lunch for Fatherâs Day. Again we waited 25 minutes for dessert to arrive.
They took the drinks off the bill as a gesture of good will, but honestly I just wanted to eat at 12:30, not at 2pm! There seemed to be no understanding of the needs of young children and the how difficult it is getting them sit at a table hungrily waiting for 90 minutes!!!
I understand that the ownership has recently changed but that the manager is the same. The food is good but the service was such a shambles that we wonât be returning anytime soon. What was a local gem is now a...
Read moreWe arrived at the Rising Sun in Backwell at about 5:30 this evening. We asked for a table and moved to one which was fine. A waiter brought menus and we were told that all food was available. We ordered starters one of which we were then told was not available sp we changed it. We ordered 3 roast dinners. 1 beef and 2 3 meat dinners. We then waited for the best part of an hour for these to be served, after our starters. There was only one other table occupied in the restaurant and the pub was not busy. When the food came it was lukewarm warm and we could not understand why? Even the gravy was only just warm. The roast potatoes were only just cooked, and were lukewarm warm and we only had 2 small ones each, so I have no idea what was going on there. Your beef is offered at medium rare and it was all well done, I am told this is bought in cooked, so how can you offer it medium rare? During the meal we were asked if the food was good and I said no, and I would like to speak to the manager. When she came she was very pleasant but I explained what was wrong and she was most understanding and offered us a discount which I accepted. It is my opinion that either you should have stopped serving roast dinners earlier, or the chef was not on top of his game and could not deliver what you were offering. I have eaten in this pub 4 or 5 times this year as I live locally, but unless you can tell me how you are going to improve what you are offering you wonât see me...
