Awful dining experience! Made all the worse by the fact that we'd pre-booked AND pre-ordered. But when we arrived (a party of 16) they appeared to not be expecting us! We were ushered upstairs and were seated on a long table. We then waited well over an hour and were told that two of the things people had chosen had already been used up. The 'roast of the day' was chicken. Well, I honestly believe they nipped out to the local shop and bought a couple of packs of frozen chicken breasts because when the dinners arrived nothing could have been more unappetising. All the chicken was anaemic and obviously microwaved. The Yorkshires were very varied. Mine wasn't too bad...fairly well risen and didn't look too bad but my husband's looked exactly like it had been stamped on..flat as a pancake! The veg came separately.. rock hard broccoli, lovely carrots and garden peas. We then waited ages for gravy. The dinners were Luke warm, the carrots red hot, presentation awful. There were roast potatoes which looked wizened and dried up as if they were several days old. I wouldn't have DREAMED of sending those plates of food out. The chef can't have an ounce of pride in his work. When we enquired about puddings we were told there was only bread and butter pudding and one other item available. None of us bothered. We all felt so sorry for the leader of our group who had made the booking because it was such a massive disappointment, hot on the heels of one of the best meals ever at The Dirty Bottles at Alnwick the night before. On top of all of the above the middle-aged barman was very abrupt and unfriendly. Needless to say we will avoid The Hermitage like the plague if we're ever in Warkworth again. Staff training needed in attitude, presentation, responsibility when taking bookings and food pride....all lacking on our visitđThis review has been forwarded to the brewery, (Marston's) who own and...
Read moreMyself and two friends stayed here on 18th June after a day walking the St. Oswald Way . We had booked an overnight stay months before but came off the walk too late for an evening meal (8.45) . An offer of sandwiches would have been nice as we had phoned ahead from Felton but this wasnât an option. We accepted that and ordered a well deserved pint. We paid for the nights stay only to find the room consisted of a double and a single bed. Sorry but not acceptable having paid ÂŁ180. The person behind the bar couldnât take the money off us fast enough and couldnât wait to close the bar. We complained about the sleeping arrangements and an extra room was provided to enable us to all sleep in separate beds. The original room was unbelievably tired, bare furnishings, a poor shower and handbasin. We had to share a communal toilet along the corridor which ran out of loo rolls and paper towels of which we had no means to replenish .Breakfast was average. This was definitely the worst accommodation we stayed in over a 7 day...
Read moreBooked a table here this morning for 5 people at 6pm. We arrived at 6pm and bar man seemed surprised to see us. Think it was very obvious they hadnât reserved any seating for us. Waitress tried to sit us upstairs after ordering us to place a drinks order at the bar while she switched the lights on upstairs. When we went upstairs the place was roasting and would not be comfortable to sit and eat dinner at. We eventually got a table at the bar area. Bar man was dismissive, almost to the point of being rude. My sister said she heard him saying to locals sitting drinking at the bar that â tourists were a joke and always booked last minute expecting a tableâ Food was ok but the service from the bar man and attitude means we will never be back. We are good tippers working in the hair and beauty industry so at the end of the day it was his loss. No tip. I donât leave negative reviews very often but this unwelcoming attitude really needs to...
