Finally getting round to writing this review. I thought about what I was going to write because sometimes when you have a bad experience its better to cool down first. I went to Jinnah’s on Saturday 27th November we had a table booked for 6pm and there was 16 of us. I firstly want to say that on arrival the restaurant was quiet as it had just opened, and it was well presented with nice features. As soon as we sat down the young waitress came over to take our drinks orders. Once all the party arrived, they took our food orders, we requested separate bills as the drinks had all accidently been put together on 1 tab. Some of the party had ordered starters but majority had ordered mains. We had 6 children with us and after 50 minutes of placing our orders they came with a complimentary tray of 8 poppadum's for the delay. Apologised due to staff shortage and we were a large table, sorry seemed to be the motto of the night. A waiter came out and asked if we wanted the starters and the mains together, we said yes because everyone was hungry. They brought only the starters and the rest of us had another 40 minutes wait before we got our mains. Again, apologies and we was a large table etc…. At this point the restaurant was packed out. Other tables who came in after us had been served. The food came out in dribs and drabs and by the time everyone got everything, it was cold. The Korma I ordered was luke warm, the chips were cold and the kids didn’t eat anything. Again “sorry” I was fed up after an hour and 40 minutes waiting for food, offering poppadum's for 8 people when there is 16 of us. I have a question for the manager, why take such a large booking if you could not meet our requirements. I understand the hospitality has taken a hit due to COVID but I can only imagine GREED was on your mind. You could have advised the table would be too big as Saturdays are a busy night, you was short staffed, even if you found out that day. You could advise on arrival there would be a long wait. I found your customer service extremely poor, and you all spewed the same excuses. No discount was offered, you also double charged us for the drinks as my sister later told me, you didn’t take our drinks of their tab even though we paid for them separately. My advice hire a competent host who can handle large bookings, make sure you time how long people are waiting for food and be honest. Very...
Read moreGorgeous interior - used to go when it was the Italian - if only the food & service was as good. Tried the takeaway first: found everything had a strange taste running through it - and not much difference between dishes - decidedly unimpressed. Lots of people recommended the restaurant so we (my wife & I) thought we'd give it the benefit of the doubt. We were seated at quite probably the worst table in the place - a tiny table in the corner next to the doors to the toilet. Not a good first impression, bearing in mind the restaurant was only about 1/3 full which meant we could have quite obviously had a much better table. Our food took almost one hour to arrive. We did keep getting the "I'm embarrassed/sorry" look from our server whenever she passed, but when I asked about it (after about 45 mins) she could only apologise and say she'd check for us). At a peak time, in a busy restaurant, I could understand the wait, but on a fairly quiet evening it did (along with our toilet-table) provide a fairly poor first impression. When the food did eventually arrive one of our dishes was cold, and one was hot but had a skin on top of it, and another had an oil spill on top of it. The other three were simply below average but not offensive . At this point however we just wanted to get it over with and get out of there. I've eaten Indian/Pakistani/Bengali food all over the world (it's my wife and my favourite) but the food at the Jinnah was among the worst I've tasted (only beaten by a truly unpleasant slop served at an Indian restaurant in Beverley some years previously - currently rated as our worst food experience to date). The excessive wait to get our food and the truly unpleasant table position only added to this overall rubbish experience. So after trying both the takeaway and the restaurant I couldn't recommend either I'm afraid. And I'm really puzzled as to why it gets...
Read moreAbsolutely scrumptious!
We visited with our two children (6yrs and 1yr) and had a marvelous meal!
The kids curry portions are generous and cooked to perfection - great big chunks of chicken in the korma and a smooth, fragrant coconut sauce. They are presented in the same serving dishes as the adults, so our eldest felt very grown up! (Our eldest has some allergies, and they were able to safely accommodate without any issue). Our toddler was provided with a high chair and happily munched away - there was zero quibble with us bringing a sippy cup with us for him. My husband and I both enjoyed lamb dishes - the meat was tender, perfectly spiced and utterly delicious! The family naan will happily serve four, they're massive!
The staff are excellent; your glass doesn't stand empty for more than a minute before they quietly come over and ask if you need a refill. They are well organised and on top of everything. As customers leave, tables are scrubbed down and places re-set in a flash.
The building is absolutely beautiful, with chandeliers and waterfalls behind glass. The loos were immaculate in both the ladies and gents (though the taps in the ladies are a tad wobbly).
A genuinely lovely evening out, fabulous food in a delightful atmosphere. We will...
