Read moreWe visited La Fonte today in Corby and it is an Italian restaurant. On first impression on the outside, it used to have a menu and it used to look welcoming but over the past year or two there's been no menu outside and no signs other than a small sign from the inside saying "Open".
But coming in it was fairly quiet and we were given the option to choose where we wanted to sit. All of the tables were very clean and we then ordered our drinks my partner had Coca-Cola and i just stuck with tap water.
For starters, i had the "Funghi Gorgonzola" which was Mushrooms cooked in our signature rich and creamy blue cheese sauce, served with grilled ciabatta bread. I thought this was delicious and it was quite light and i enjoyed the flavours. It was very well done.
My partner had the "Caprese Salad" Tomato, mozzarella & basil drizzled with balsamic dressing. He said he had enjoyed it but looking at the plate it felt the price wasn't right, this was £6.95! For five thin shards of mozzarella cheese, it felt like it was overpriced for what it was.
My main course was the "Pollo al Limone" which was a tender grilled chicken breast, served in a deliciously light and refreshing white wine and lemon sauce. I thought this was lovely, this was a winner in my book. Tasty and genuinely enjoyed this. Plus the vegetables and roast potatoes were great too and it was lovely.
My partner ordered the "Lasagne Della Cesa" and he said this was nice, i did have a bite and it tasted like a classic lasagne with no frills. It's a solid Italian dish that was excellent.
Overall it's a lovely place, we had a good time and would recommend this place for those who enjoy an Italian setting especially right in the...
Read moreMy daughter and I enjoyed a Saturday afternoon lunch here recently and we were both very impressed. The restaurant is quite unassuming from the outside (I didn’t think it was open when I first drove past), but parking is easy to find close by. Inside, the restaurant is quite compact, but clean and tidy and we were given a friendly welcome when we arrived. We were seated immediately and the waitress took our drinks order quickly.
The menu is extensive, traditional Italian and we decide to avoid ordering our normal go-to dishes. I ordered Fried Calamari to start, and a Calzone for my main. My daughter skipped the starters and ordered Penne Arrabiata. While we waited for our food, we were served bread (dough balls) with garlic butter, which were appreciated and very tasty.
The starter and main arrived quickly and were of good quality and of a decent portion size. The calamari was cooked just right, and not too heavily battered. The calzone was tasty and very filling, and the penne was tasty and warmingly spicy. It was great! We had desserts too, I had tiramisu and my daughter ordered a chocolate ice cream dish whose name I can’t remember… but both were good.
La Fonte isn’t fine dining, but it is a good, family run restaurant in the heart of up and coming Corby’s town centre that is well worth a visit. As I’ve mentioned before, the menu is quite extensive, so we’ll be trying something different next time we go.
I thought the prices were very reasonable for the quality of food and service that we...
